Does Apple Maps Jeopardize National Security? | Popular Science
Anyone following the Apple Maps fiasco over the last week knows that there isn’t a lot that Apple Maps is doing better than the Google Maps app that preceded it on the iOS platform. But according to Turkish site Sosyalmedya and corroborated by The Verge, it seems that Apple is providing higher quality imagery than Google of certain sensitive places on the globe. Whether or not that is a good thing is up for debate.
Pictured above: Imrali Island, home to one of Turkey’s highest-security prisons. You can see that Google has overexposed its image, while Nokia has only provided a very grainy, zoomed-out view. In Apple’s imagery, individual buildings are clearly defined, prompting Sosyalmedya to accuse the app of jeopardizing national security. The Verge has checked up on several other internationally sensitive sites and there seems to be trend. Apple has the best imagery in all the places it’s not supposed to.
good job apple.
