    Spanishstoat's GIMP art showcase

    (banner image pending)

Hello and welcome to my showcase of little things I have done in GIMP. I am only just starting, so don't expect me to be pro yet Anyways here are some of my sigs and avys and my thoughts on them. Enjoy!

    Piece #1 - Ninjini sig

This was the very first sig I made in GIMP ( Calling it a sig is probably an overstatement ) All I did was put some text on a sig, no C4D's or effects, just text on an image . I believe I have made significant improvements since then.

    Piece 2 - Killzone sig

My second sig This was a slight improvement, as I finally ventured into the effects area I used too much blur effect though, which left the render looking bad. The render wasn't centered either, so the text ended up being the focus of the sig. Overall though a slight improvement on the previous.

    Piece 3 - Mirrors edge

I was pleased with this as I started using brushes and I made my own background . This wasn't too good though and I could definitely do better Overall though I was pleased with this, although it was a bit plain.

    Piece 4 - Yoo hoo's avatar

Slightly pleased with this, not 100% sure yet. I tried to blur the flame slightly but it ended up not showing too well . The text doesn't really work well either. Yoo hoo seemed happy with it though, so maybe I am being too critical.

    Piece 5 - Wham shell

This was a request from my little bro I put this together with some C4D's and some background I made. I thought this looked pretty good and he seemed pleased so that's all good

    Piece #6-Bright and colourful sig - Platinum-graphics BSOTW#35 entry-

I love this sig, favourite one so far. I think I did well with the colours and placement of the focal point (render) but may have included too much over the render. Overall though very pleased with this

Looks very promising Stoat, way better than my first attempts at sigmaking. I'd offer up some tips, but I've been out of the game for too long. You should look up some tutorials online, once I did that I found my work to improve drastically. That and hit up some of the guys on here, even if they use PS there are still some techniques that are universal. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks kid! I have been learning it via online tuts, with a good beginner tut linked by Bladia. Dare has been giving me some feedback as well, so has djung, everybody has been really helpful

Coming along nicely Just keep practicing some basics as well as doing new things, and you'll improve in no time.

If you want a place for some great CnC, and where there's LOADS of various resources, you should check out Platinum-Graphics.com It's helped a lot of people improve, myself included.

This is actually one of the most useful things I've ever learned in GIMP, especially once you start taking the technique and using it for things other than text. It's basically how to do a clipping mask in GIMP, which you can use for a lot of different effects. If you plan to stay with GIMP, definitely look into this.

    What Beam said.

I honestly used this technique in about 95% of my pieces once I learned it. Memorize it and experiment with it and you'll be amazed with what it can do for you.

I'll go hop on aboard this train of agreement here.

When you get into using text, it can definitely help the text blend in with the sig's environment. Try it out, you can do more things with it too.
