The Official Platinum Difficulty Discussion Thread

Thanks to antoniosbandana of the Banner Team for making this banner.

***Please do not vote until you have earned the .***

This thread is first and foremost a discussion thread, but it also has a poll. Please do not vote in the poll until you have earned the platinum trophy for this game. That being said, we invite you to post below and discuss the difficult aspects of the game, even if you do not yet have the platinum trophy in your collection.

When you post, give more than just a number. Give reasons why you feel the game is easy or hard. What parts of the game are easy or hard? Were there collectibles? Were they a pain? Is there a required online component? How easy or hard is the online portion? What is the most frustrating part about the game?

Once you have obtained the platinum trophy, feel free to return to this thread and post your official vote. Say something to the effect of "I give this a 2 because there was only one tough spot and the collectibles were easy to find". At this point, you may also add your vote to the poll.

The poll is public, meaning everyone can see how you vote.

Obvious spamming will not be tolerated. Moderators will take action against obvious spammers as necessary*.

Well we had three people vote who did not yet have the . This is a violation of the rules which are clearly laid out in the thread header. I removed the entire thread and pasted a brand new, uncorrupted one. Please don't make me (or any other TGT member) do that again.

I am not voting. But I will say that I can already see from playing just a small amout of the game so far that this will be a hard to get. I do know it is harder then the last one (I have the last one on Xbox and have about 4 or 5 left to get so maybe I should get Asylum for PS3 and add another ?)

I can't vote yet, because I've only completed the main story and half the side missions so far, but unofficially .... it's on track for "hard". I'll post again if/when I get the plat.

BTW, I think the joker 'riddles' are way too numerous and tedious. I'd like to see more actual 'riddles', and a LOT less gizmo/technique puzzles ... and if they're going to include the latter, they should NOT have them located in places that should be impossible for the Riddler to have reached (accompanied with a team of handymen) much less remain undetected during installation. It was a real logistical disconnect for me.

I actually only had 2 riddles that stumped me... and 1 trophy. The challenges themselves were much easier than Asylum was, and the campaigns weren't that bad off for me either. Once I figured out the trick to higher scores It was a cakewalk rly... Never had to do but 1 campaign twice. NG+ is a breeze once you know where everything is!

Only complaint was the calanderman trophy... And needing to redo all side missions on both normal run and NG+. Voted a 3 since not as bad as Asylum.

NOFORPAIN, so you had to do the side missions in NG+ too? ...dammit, I was hoping I'd only need to do them in the first playthrough. I only just started the challenges but I found myself scoring 3/3 even with making quite a few mistakes. I think it's a little more forgiving than AA.

Ya... All sides had to be done too... I thought so before so whoever said they didnt is an idiot. And ya I could make it thru the challenges with many mistakes where in Asylum if you didnt have FLAWLESS in every round you failed...

I haven't plat'd it yet, but I'm saying based on the challenges and riddles, a 4.

Also, I thought I only had to do the missions on one playthrough...since when have I had to do them on two? Do the riddles also account for that? I am not doing 440 riddles twice...

Nope. You can check your overall game progress after loading your game save, and you will see that you have to do the side-missions twice, one on a new game and the second on a NG+, but the riddles are on their own and carry over to NG+ so once you complete all 400 (or 440 if you have Catwoman), it registers as 100% for the riddles. Good luck! =3

So you can't vote if you don't have the plat? I'm not sure that leads to accurate results. If the trophies are hard enough to keep some of us from being able to plat it, I think that has value. It took me months to get through the combat challenges in AA.

If 5 people plat the game after a week, their opinion is going to be very different then those of us still working on the plat two months after we started.

This was very hard. I didn't expect it to have to do campaign challenges.

My unoffical vote is 3/Time consuming

I found Batman AA to be easy, Took me 2 hours to do all Silent predator and combo challenges which were fun to do. Batman AC is a step higher than AA from what I have played. The combo challenges I have done were easy aswell. My official vote might be higher but only time will tell.

I voted for Moderate. I was really worried about the challenges coming into this game, because I really struggled with them in the first game. The campaign challenges looked so daunting at first. I found that the combat challenges were much easier this time around. A couple of the predator challenges were frustrating at first, but once I found a good method I could finish them consistently. You'll be putting a lot of hours into this platinum, and even more still for the 100%. It took me 3 solid weeks of work to finish everything.

    I voted Hard.

Its definitely harder than B:AA in every aspect:

    - NG+ is harder than Hard mode in AA, but is a breeze if you do it after finishing the challenges especially campaign challenges.
    - Collectables are MUCH more than the previous one. This is the only time-consuming trophy in this game thanx god you only have to do it once.
    - Challenges: combat challenges are alot easier than AA. Predator challenges are hard especially the last 3 EXTREME. Campaign challenges are doable because of the "free medal" modifier which can save you in some of the predator challenges.

All in all if Batman AA is 7/10 in difficulty then this one is 7,5/10 in difficulty.

    I voted Moderate.

I felt that this game outdid Arkham Asylum in every way, just that it was a little easier. I saw 440 Riddler riddles and thought I'd have a hard time looking for them all but it really wasn't that bad. The bosses to me were easier than they were in Arkham Asylum, though for some of them it still took more than one attempt. New game+ took a little time to get used to at first since I had to adjust playing with no Counter icon but eventually, it felt like I was flying right through the game, even with having to do the side missions again.

The combat, predator and campaign challenges are where the difficulty can come in. I found most of the combat challenges to be a lot easier than the challenges in Arkham Asylum, but incredibly fun. I had more trouble with the predator and campaign challenges, occasionally picking the wrong modifiers which resulted in a fair share of retries. Perfect Freeflow 2.0 was also a pain in the ass. There were more moves to do and I constantly found myself forgetting which of Batman's moves I had already done and which moves I hadn't.

So yeah, overall I'd say Batman: Arkham City was of moderate difficulty. I found it to be a little easier than Arkham Asylum but there was still some things that gave me some trouble. If anyone's worrying that they might not be able to complete the combat challenges in this game, I think with Arkham City you might have an easier time with it. I can see some of the campaign challenges stopping some people though.

To keep myself sane I am trying to do one campaign a day, although I am being distracted by other games, friends and just life in general. The only thing I've had trouble so far is one predator map due to the shockwave requirement - thank god in the campaign I had the free medal booster so I didn't even bother with it. I have 3 extreme campaigns left

My vote is for Moderate - there were some campaigns that needed some retries because I made a few mistakes here or there, but for the most part I found them more forgiving than AA. I found the combat challenges to be very easy and the combat freeflow 2.0 took only 2 tries. NG+ can take some time getting used to and for some reason, the toughest thing for me was mastering the gliding side mission, but I persevered after half a dozen tries. Overall, outstanding game - I've yet to finish some of the other GOTY contenders, but if this was picked, it is well deserving.

Rated it a 4 (Hard). Mostly, it was because of the time-consuming nature of the game, specifically, looking for the Riddler Trophies (though I loved the puzzle aspect of how to get some trophies like the REC machine mazes, and the stomp on the pressure pad as hard as possible etc.).

The hardest part would probably be the Riddler campaigns, especially if you haven't got the hang of how to tackle the combat portions. My suggestion would probably be to get Perfect Freeflow 2.0 before getting into the meat of Riddler's Revenge. The repetitive nature of getting that trophy will make the journey of platting this one easier.
