    Which gift did you choose?

At the start of the game you get to choose a gift that will especially help you at the beginning of the game, giving you a head start of sorts.

    Here's the list of gifts:

    Blessing of the Goddess
A consumable item that fully restores you health and cures negative status effects such as poison.
    Black Firebomb
A thrown item that explodes into flame upon impact. If you choose this as your gift, you start with 10 of them.
    Telescope
Allows you to see far off places.
    Pendant
A story-related gift of sorts. Not much information on it, but it was recommended by the game's director.
    Humanity's Twin
Normally dropped by Black Phantoms; a consumable that gives you 2 Humanity.
    Master Key
Opens any and all locks with a simple lock.
    Ring of Life
Ring that increases your HP by 30.
    Ring of the Aged Witch
Allows entrance into the Chaos Servant's covenant.

All gifts can be found separate in the game world, except for the Master Key, which the Thief class also starts with no matter what.

So what gift are you getting/already got? I plan on getting the Master Key or Ring of Life once I receive the game myself.

The Master Key does not have many uses. It saves 1000 souls in the beginning of the game for buying a key, besides that it's useless.

As for myself I took the Twin Humanities. Though if you want to get a special weapon take the Black Firebombs and kill the first boss the first time you encounter him, not the second.

I took the pendant. I had no idea what it does, but I felt that it would be useful in someway. Didn't help to keep me alive though. Died over 20 times.

Took the ring of life... like it really helped me live, lol. Than again, most of the time it was my fault. I blame the others on not knowing where to go next.

I took the Master Key, because I hate not being able to open doors. And I heard it was the only item you can't find in the game.

I picked being a thief (so I already had the Master Key), so I picked the Blessing of the Goddess. I've only used the potion once, because I'm uncertain that it'll replenish, and of course I have the Estus Flask, that I had no knowledge of prior to choosing my gift. But as for what I_nero_I said, using the master key does put you up against enemies that will easily rape yer character.

Do the Black Firebombs come in handy against any other creatures, and do they replenish? If they are very valuable, I'll even restart my game and choose them as my gift. Tell me what info you have, broheim.

I would've totally repped you for this.

I took the Master Key, but I'm thinking of starting over and and can't decide between the Pendant, Humanity's Twin, or the Firebombs.

If you take the Black Firebombs as a starting gift, as I've said to people in the CB, you can kill the Asylum Demon the first time you meet him and get a special weapon. Or you can fisticuffs him down...my way is easier.

Master Key which has been pretty useful, but I'm thinking of starting a new game now as the thief and getting either the pendant or Ring of the Aged Witch

I did the Pyromancer with the ring of life but then I heard you miss out on a weapon if you don't go with the fire bombs. I will probablly start over tonight with a thief so I can have the master key and firebombs

    Important!

According to the Dark Souls Wiki, you do not need the Black Firebombs to get the unique weapon. All you need to do is defeat the Asylum Demon the first time you see him. In the tutorial level, you will remember the Asylum Demon scaring the shit out of you before you most likely fled away into a different room. Well instead of doing this, be a man and attempt to defeat the demon right then and there. You'll get the Demon's Great Hammer as a reward.

    EDIT:

Okay, upon further research, since you'd be fighting the Asylum Demon the first time without your weapons (or armor, I believe), choosing the Black Firebombs as a gift would help you a lot when defeating him. It's possible to do it without them, but it'd make it a long, difficult, and tedious fight.

Jack, you actually do have a weapon, albeit a poor and broken sword hilt. But I think starting over and getting the firebombs isn't a bad idea. Also, Majinki, thanks for clarifying how to get that weapon. I have the strategu guide, but it doesn't go into specifics about obtaining it.

Thanks to Thunder for the platbar!!!
