Dead Space 3 has ELEVEN Pieces of Day-1 DLC

Dead Space 3 Launching with 11 Pieces of Day-One DLC - Forbes

If youíve just bought Dead Space 3 but have the urge to spend another $50, EA has a deal for you. The game is launching with 11 pieces of DLC, ranging from upgrades to a resource-collecting scavenger bot, to new suits and, of course, an online pass for anyone who hasnít bought a new copy of the game.

While this is separate from the earlier news that the crafting system would involve microtransactions, a lot of these downloads do tie into that system.

ďEverybody will find at least one of these bots in the game (and there a couple hidden ones to pick up, too.) The Scavenger Bot is an autonomous robot that can harvest resources for you and deliver them to the Tool Construction bench,Ē Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis explained in a blog post.

Iíve said before that Iíve got no problem with day-one DLC, but Iím not sure this is what I meant. Iím all for developers thinking about new ways to distribute and price actual content, but itís hard to see how this model will do the main game any service. Does terror work when weíre reminded that we can pay for little bonuses at any given moment? Is Isaac (and his buddy) really alone in a terrifying stand-off with the necromorphs if the computer gods can bestow upon him blessings in exchange for a few simple tokens?

I always believe that if the main game is worth $60, it doesnít quite matter what else goes along with it. But if all this DLC can affect the experience of the game as a whole, then thereís a problem. This stuff matters for a game that relies on atmosphere as much as Dead Space.

EA is clearly eager to experiment with some new economic models with this game, and if it likes what it sees we can probably expect a lot more of these new pricing systems with AAA games. I canít help but imagine that short-term success could mask real long-term danger here. Even as one game makes more money that it would otherwise, we could find ourselves eroding the value proposition that convinces people to buy $300 systems and $60 games.

There will also be some ďdisturbingĒ post-launch DLC for the game, which we assume is story-based.

I was listening to IGN's Podcast Beyond and they were stating that EA said that DS3 had to sell at least 5 million copies to warrant a sequel. Maybe they know that it wont sell that many, and are trying to get as much money as they can? I love this series so I will most likely get it.

I wouldn't complain either unless it can change the game to making it easier for people. I'll be going for platinum without any new bought content while there will be people who will buy new content to make it easier for themselves. This will just mean the respect for the plat has gone down in my book, because you will never know who truly went for it legitimately.

Thanks to Bladia for the amazing Sig and Avy.

This type of shit is why i canceled getting the game. I have a feeling this system will be successful. I pray it wont be, not to dick EA but just so it doesnt become to popular to fast. Lets face it though this is the future of gaming. The only way to voice my opinion is to keep my wallet closed thats what ill do. I really loved this series too such a shame. Its not like EA is the only ones doing this though and at least its not needed to win.......YET! lol

True...but they did the same damn thing with 2, yeah? You could buy the weapon packs to make Hard to the Core easier for you so I'm not surprised...doesn't mean we HAVE to buy it

You cancelled because of optional content? It's EA, that's a given. Again, I'll reiterate, we don't HAVE to buy it...it's optional.

One day, somebody on this site will take some business courses before they fly off the handle.

I present to you, the reason there has to be day 1 DLC for Dead Space 3 - Beef Jerky & Meat Sticks - Center for Spice Loss | Slim Jim

Now for weeks, Slim Jim has been advertising that there would be codes for Dead Space 3 in their product, which is a continuation of their partnership deal with EA from earlier games, they have circulate new games into the fold with new content. But you may ask, "What does that have to do with me? Part of the games ad campaign includes promotional deals with other things, no different than when Halo or Call of Duty team up with Mountain Dew or Doritos to give each other some better advertising in terms of scratching each others backs. This equates to addtional revenue streams (which is a term that I have probably used 50 times on this site, but nobody seems to understand yet.) and that means more money for said gaming company - which means more games for you. Unless more games is bad - then you really need to take your hammer and sickle attire and go find yourself a nice small plot of land in China.

Microtransactions are the future of the industry - and have been for a good long time. There is no reason anybody should sit there and still be up at arms at this point over this type of business practice. If you don't like it - don't buy it. In the mean time, there are a whole bunch of people out there who will buy these type of things, and enjoy having the option. EA doesn't give a flying fuck about people whining about "legitimacy of your platinums" or "your game being incomplete" - they care about money, and at the end of the day that's what every damn developer and publisher lives off of.

It's not like Dead Space is new to these type of pay-to-win items, they have been doing it from the beginning of the franchise. Bitching about it now just makes you sound like an idiot, because you could have looked at the online store of each of the previous titles and knew this was coming.

You don't like it? Don't buy it. EA will likely hit it's 5 million unit mark, and if they fall short... guess what will help you get Dead Space 4? - those damn microtransactions. But then again, that pigheadedness will cause so many of the people on this site to repeat this same process again, meanwhile it's been happening since 2008 to this franchise.

Thanks for somewhat reiterating my point that they've been doing this since day one, Rubestar :stare: You're not the only one that has taken a few higher education courses about business practices.

Don't care. It's there as a choice; if you want it, cool, if you don't, cool. I'm not buying it, but I'm really looking forward to the game. Gonna be epic!

The DLC is for extra armor and resources so I dont get why people are b*tching about it being day 1... Kinda like the DmC costumes, had they been day 1 I would have bought them but I already played the game enough by the time they came out...

If you dont want the DLC stop whining and play the game normally... I'm not gonna get them cause I want to beat it legit...
People always find something to moan and whine about... Sissies..

Oh for sure, to each their own. I'm just saying it's there as an option to those who want it...it's been done with the other games.

I'm not saying I like it either or want it...I just simply won't buy it
