The Official Platinum Difficulty Discussion Thread

    (banner image pending)

This thread is first and foremost a discussion thread, but it also has a poll. Please do not vote in the poll until you have earned the platinum trophy for this game. That being said, we invite you to post below and discuss the difficult aspects of the game, even if you do not yet have the platinum trophy in your collection.

When you post, give more than just a number. Give reasons why you feel the game is easy or hard. What parts of the game are easy or hard? Were there collectibles? Were they a pain? Is there a required online component? How easy or hard is the online portion? What is the most frustrating part about the game?

Once you have obtained the platinum trophy, feel free to return to this thread and post your official vote. Say something to the effect of "I give this a 2 because there was only one tough spot and the collectibles were easy to find". At this point, you may also add your vote to the poll.

The poll is public, meaning everyone can see how you vote.

Very Easy. Got the platinum in 1 day and a half. I spent countless hours on this game back on the PS2 so... I got every info I need like boss weaknesses, enemy move sets, blue orb locations and the like so I managed to breeze through the game. Vergil can make your Hard, Very Hard and DMD run easy.

Moderate beacause of DMD. Everything else isn't that hard at all, including Bloody Palace.

    3 Moderate or 6/10
This game might seem tough at 1st but once you get used to it then it's not too bad. DMD could of been really hard but just use the super costumes to get through it making it not so tough. Even bloody palace mode is much easier than DMC2 BP as using the super sparda costume makes it easy and is much shorter. The real challenge here is the many playthroughs it takes to get the plat which is from 5-8 playthroughs.

    Hard.

I guess the small number of ratings here proofs that this game is quite hard/tedious, unless for those who're very good at this kind of games or played DMC to death back on the PS2. Well I can say that I loved DMC1 and it got my attention because it was by Capcom and I loved Resident Evil. That was many years ago obviously. DMC 3 disappointed me because it did not continue the story of DMC1 and its atmosphere. Rather it sort of reinvented it with a much more complex combat/style system and a big change in presentation which is not really my taste. Also the levels and "puzzles" do not really fit together unlike in DMC1 and I couldn't really see a logical thread that led through the game to a big finale, also unlike the first game. Why am I telling this? Because the biggest problem for me in DMC3 was the willpower necessary to finish this hard game multiple times and get all trophies to Plat it.
My first steps in DMC 3 were not really successful and after I had troubles in the mission 2 boss fight, the mission 3 boss fight, the mission 4 boss fight and eventually failed to defeat the mission 5 bosses, I switched the game down to easy difficulty. I found the game challenging even then and after I started in April 2012 it took me till September 2012 to finish the game on normal difficulty. Of course this was not because I tried some parts a hundred times but I played other games in the meantime because this game felt boring, hard and frustrating at the same time. It took me a whole other year till I finished the game on hard and another five months until I finished it on very hard, which was yesterday btw. After finishing it on normal I gave up in the middle of my hard run with Dante and switched to Vergil. After finishing the game another time on easy for the yellow orb trophy I started another run on easy with Virgil and played it afterwards on normal and then on hard. The limited combat system of Vergil made the game easier for me but it was still very exhausting to play it so many times. By the time I finished hard I had 6 1/2 playthroughs. Very hard was the climax and while it was never too difficult it was just annoying, boring and tedious for me with my very limited abilities in games like this.
However very fortunate very hard grants you a costume with unlimited devil trigger so I finished DMD and HoH within one day and Bloody Palace was a joke with the costume that had unlimited devil trigger and health regeneration. In fact I'm very sure I'd never have Plat-ed this game if there weren't these costumes. Big respect to anyone who manages that without.
