    Dragon's Dogma - Angry Review

Not sure if any of you have ever seen a Review from 'Angry Joe', but he's really good at them, he just seems to tell you straight.

Thought I'd share this for anyone who is on the fence about purchasing it, or for those like me who just want to hear other peoples opinions

I totally agree with EVERYTHING he says in the Review, even down to the Title Theme

LOL, completely agree as well with everything he said.
That's what i'm saying to everybody that ask me about the game.
It's highly addictive and fun but there's a lot of flaws, including a lousy story.

That is why I like Joe, he never bullshits (tells you exactly what he thinks, good or bad) and his scores make sense. A 6/10, for example, is a good score in his book because it is above average (while most reviewers see 6/10 as a bad score)

Good review. The positive points far outweight the negative points which in my opinion are just based on personal taste. The constant backtracking and no fast travel are something i like and there are different ways to take to get to the same locations once you get further into the game. The pawn AI isn't perfect but it works and a balanced party will help here. The pawns do tend to talk a little too much sometimes and say the same things but i think capcom are on to something with this idea. Actually my only real gripe with the game is the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I have a 37" LED flatscreen TV and the game plays in a 32" screen size? Anyway my conclusion is simple, the game is completely fun and very addictive and the negative points mentioned in this review don't actually hinder the game for me. So lets get back to playing it

Wow, I like how he did this review. Very cool.
And I completely agree. Once I realized there was no fast travel, and that the entirety of the world map was impressively large, I started to get really disappointed. And the amount of Escort missions I've been seeing on the Notice Boards don't help. Having to run someone halfway across one region, with no fast travel, and having to deal with the day/night cycle is really frustrating. I'd love it if they could patch that in and just remove the Port Crystal system entirely. Will be interesting to see if enough people complain about that for Capcom to actually patch it.
The pawn chatter doesn't really bother me, but I can totally see it getting annoying after a while.
As for everything else, AJ is right on the money. The presentation is really amazing at times, and I've taken quite a few screenshots. My only complaint on that aspect is the incredibly low resolution/size of the images. I've yet to have a single screenshot be bigger than 100KB. They look extremely grainy when viewed on the PS3, while the game doesn't really look that bad in action. Maybe they can patch it to allow for less compression when it saves the pictures.
All around, I like the game. If they make a DD2 and take care of the issues brought up in this video, it'll be a grand slam, imho.

This is a very good review. I know I love the game, but then at times I wonder why when I get frustrated with the exact same things he mentions.

Great video, I know alot of people hate that there is no fast travel in the game and I understand. It don't really bother me as much cause I just farm on my way place to place. IMO the pros is way better than the cons. Even tho if Cap don't want to add in Fast Travel as a patch, they can always add like Donkeys so we can ride around.

Anyone else notice the video's "As Seen On" feature directs to this site? Kinda neat.

Anyway, saw this in my sub box and just got done watching it. I was on the fence, but now, I kind of want to try it. But I'll wait till it lowers in price.

Ha, found this really funny. I do agree with most points of the review but a lot of it never bothered me except for the lack of a faster travel method. Some places do have shortcuts but not all of them do I would assume. I always liked the main theme, probably cause it sounds nearly exactly like T.M. Revolution, could tell it wasn't him but the styling is a lot like his works and he has worked with Capcom in the past like in Sengoku Basara.

but yeah, most stuff he said I noticed but I overlook most of it. I don't even notice my pawns talking half the time or I'm usually talking to my tv in reply to them, lol.

Although I didnt enjoy the demo(I rarely ever do like demos), I was putting this game on the back burner at the current moment. Nice review though he explained alot of my questions about this game. The fact that there is no fast travel is really disappointing but I would get over it.

A very legit review, hit on the major points however the only thing bothers me is the pawn talking (the ones other than your main pawn), it does gets annoying somewhat when you know what you're facing (like harpies in the video). The travel is not so bad as you can farm a bit and 10,000 for a ferry stone doesn't seem a lot as you progress the game, and there is a chance for a free ferry stone once awhile at the gran soren portal.

Heh, when he mentioned the pawn A.I. as being unreliable, it is not that but rather based on their inclinations (aka their personalities). A wrong inclination for a class can often lead to a stupid pawn - thus, it is important to utilise the Rift store and buy the necessary elixirs to change either their primary or secondary inclinations.

For example, Medicant is great for a mage due to its focus on healing support while Scather is great for rangers or warriors due to its focus on stronger enemies first. Also, recruiting online pawns based on their correct inclinations will give you a big advantage in setting up your optimal party. Dragon's Dogma is more complex than you think. ^o^

LOVED this review . Subscribing to this guy now as never watched or heard of before but found it very very entertaining to sit through the entire 20 minute long vid.

Touching on some of the things he spoke of in the vid now. The Fast travel didn't bother me at all.. could of been nice, but I see it unnecessary. Game isn't large enough really to need one and the walking and adventuring down the roads back and forth are part of the game to me at least. Even if they did patch it for some people, I think it would hold back the true experience.

As for pawns.. I really did hate them and their constant monotonous dialogue. I found myself constantly yelling shut up the same as Arnie in the clip . Just playing and then get into a fight or activate something and pawns all state the obvious and I go into a rage fit cussing at them.. Like oh damn I'm talking to myself now. Sometimes entertaining, but could definitely agree that needed to be chilled out on.

Did agree with everything though he stated. Think if they would of invested more time into this to fix some little bugs and give the game more depth and enemies, it could be one of the most superiors games out there. It's feel of Monster Hunter and battle really swayed me to love it though and didn't expect it to follow so closely to it. Lots of great RPG aspects borrowed from other games to create an A+ title in my book, while slightly held back by small things, but still completely amazing experience.

First off, I love Angry Joe (no homo haha) I've been subscribed to him waaaay back and his reviews are very honest AND to the point. But is there really no good way to get around the map? Are they implementing a mount system maybe in any patch..?

What do you think the secondary inclination would be for a support Mage? The only thing I see would be Guardian to help you live, or possibly a filler Inclination like pioneer so the pawn helps you gather stuff, but I'm not sure.

Pretty spot on review. Really, the only main thing that bothers me is the voice synch issue. It's really annoying. So far, I haven't had an issue with the story (I just met the Duke). Additionally, I don't mind the lack of fast travel. I have found that sprinting until I'm just about to run out of stamina then walking until it refills gets me to where I need to go pretty fast.

I am also getting tired of hearing the same things over and over again from the pawns. Especially when I have to continually pass through the Way Castle on the way to the Casardis region. I hate it that they say it is a way castle then 10 seconds later say it looks like it might be a way castle.

For a support/healing mage, it can be any of the following combinations:

    - Medicant / Guardian
    - Medicant / Nexus
    - Guardian / Medicant
    - Nexus / Medicant
    - Medicant / Utilitarian

My MP was Guardian/Medicant, but I just last night changed her to Guardian/Utilitarian, and that seems better for me so far. She's enchanting weapons more often now.
