how exactly are you supposed to catch the thief? it says something about grabbing but whenever i get close to him and try to grab my gal takes forever to do her grab animation and the guy sprints a mile away, i feel like this should be easier than it is

You should trust your instinct.
Eject the disc respectfully from your ps3 and insert your tongue into the ring of the disc and keep it there for 30-40 seconds, take it back out and put the disc back into the ps3.
Load it up and it should be fine

I just chased him all over and then he stopped, looked like he was trying to get in a door

Yeah I grabbed him. I'm not saying this will work, but I went the opposite route to him in hopes of cutting him off, then he stopped at a door in the area where the shops are.

I'm playing this on my alt account and was having trouble at this part to.Finally got past it after using the strategy found here

I hit him with my sword so he'd stop then grabbed him. Took me a couple of tries too.

shooting him with my staff didnt work and i swing way too slow to get him that way

I got mine after camping the intersection outside of the inn. Waited for him to hide down the road from the gate then waited at the intersection and as he ran into me I grabbed him. It took a couple tries but I got him.

Just chase the guy around and after a few mins he will stop at a door of a house. Grab him then and you will be fine bud. Don't even try to grab him till he stops at the door.

I chased him and then would stop and let him double back and just tapped to grab as he got close. Just persevere and keep trying. If you could change vocations and retry could help out. Hopefully you have taken care of this already by time I posted, never know though.

That one hallway he goes down could be useful as he runs down and then swings back but it's tight so can get him then.

holy crap i just tried like three more times and cant get him no matter what, tried my grapnel spell, didnt work, tried hitting him as he runs at me, didnt work, tried waiting in front of the exit, didnt work, this guys is the slipperyest bitch ive ever seen, if i was my strider pawn i could toss him into the air or throw fireworks at him to stun him, at some point ill change vocations but am giving up for now, trying some other quests and exploring my surroundings

It's pretty much luck, I had to hide and jump out. It worked like the 3rd time. FYI firecrackers don't work on him.

Forgot reward but I think it counts towards tophy quest. May not as unsure what quests count for it but yeah. Just keep trying on it and wait to go for a door. Did it again with ease on my ladys character and she was a fighter. Didn't do anything special so unsure why so touhg for some.
