    Spouses benefits

It seems certain NPC characters that you can marry can make you profits or you get certain perks from them. Some gives you gold in daily/weekly basis, some protect you, etc. If you're looking to have 100,000 gold at once, this might also help. The Wikia haven't listed the benefits of having certain someone as your spouse so if you have a wife or husband in Skyrim, please share what kind of perk that you get from them.

I married Ysolda, she'll run a shop from hers/your home and she'll give you a cut of the gold.

The way I understand it, all the non~fighter based characters will run a shop and cook for you. I'm about to marry Sylgja this morning (I have a soft spot for her injury story >.<). I also think there's a perk when sleeping in the same bed together. I'll know more in a couple hours.

Can anyone give me a quick guide on what it is I need to actually get married and how I would go about doing so. I'm pretty sure I bought the amulet needed but I can't see it in my inventory

Go see Marthal (His name is very close to that) in Riften. Ask him to tell you about marriage, he'll tell you that you need the Amulet of Mara, you can buy it off him. Once you have the amulet in your inventory, you need to equip it when talking to a girl/guy that you want to marry, an extra speech option will appear asking if they're interested in you. If they're interested, they will agree to marriage. Go see Marthal in Riften again and tell him you want to get married, he will tell you to return between Dawn and Dusk (8AM-8PM) the next day for your marriage.

Also, most will not want to just marry you right away. You'll need to do one or more quests for whomever you're courting before he/she will grow interested.

Thanks very much Kylo, I will try it in a moment...

I think I might have sold that amulet without realising I hope I can re-buy it!

hmm, this is incorrect. i married aela the huntress, and she opened a shop also, and i get a cut. going by this i believe most or everyone you marry will open a shop

Good to know! Also I didn't receive any sleep perk that I'm aware of.

I think he was referring to the "well rested" bonus ... not that I ever get any rest when sleeping with Aela.

As long as we're on the topic, I'm disappointed with the near complete lack of depth and meaning they gave marriage in this game. As best I can tell, the only perk seems to be that you gain an NPC that idly wanders your home to make it feel lived in, they'll cook you 1 meal per day upon request (a meal that has far lesser benefits than one you can make yourself in the same amount of time), you can request a periodic cut of the profits from their off-camera store, and they occasionally address you as 'Dear". If THAT is the sum total of their idea of marriage, then I truly feel sorry for the people who coded that.

Gee, you'd think as a minimum that they could at least animate a chaste kiss, or give you an option to say something affectionate, just to help the RPG experience a little. Something midway between the near nothingness they gave us in Skyrim, and the gratuitous sex of Dragon Age Origins, would have been welcome.

The things I do for love ... I regressed 15 hours of playtime because I'd somehow failed to notice Aela disappearing on me (presumed dead).
