All hope is not lost.
Remember - even if Bethesda does nothing, all of the lag issues should go POOF when the PS4 eventually comes out sometime in early 2012, with lots more memory, multi-core processing, and 32nm architecture. Even without being optimized to use the multi-processors, the dramatic memory increase, better processor, and faster disc alone should make Skyrim run like glass.
The only hitch is that we'll have to wait half a year ... ish ... for it to arrive.

Always good to be optimist, even when the would routinely falls well short of unrealistic expectations.

I'll be posting a thread momentarily about the new 1.3 patch, which includes some comments about Bethesda's efforts to reduce the lag for PS3 users in forthcoming patches (e.g., version 1.4+)
This is an encouraging sign that Bethesda is not just aware of the problem, but is planning multiple incremental improvements to help address it in the near future. In other words, it looks like we wont be abandoned out in the cold like we were in Oblivion.

I still love the game. Bugs are annoying, but if that's what it takes to get the game made, I'll live with it. I'm not about to start dissing on a game I've enjoyed because of other people's complaints.
