Lost my companion in New Vegas

Well I Haven't lost him because I know where he is. The problem is I can't get to him.

I recruited Rex from The King and I was doing a mission for Caesar where you have to insert the platinum chip into the weather station. When I'm down there I tell Rex to wait as there were Robots up ahead and I didn't want him killing any of them because I needed to kill them a certain way for a DLC trophy. I clear them out and do the objective but on the way back up I forget to tell Rex to follow me again and I exit the station via elevator. Now when I try to go back in it tells me that the "elevator is offline" So it looks like Rex is stuck down there for ever.

At the time I thought no biggie as I can recruit all the rest of the companions in my free spot as you are allowed 2 but just found out that you are only allowed one robot at a time so I cant recruit Ed-e. So I'm in a predicament, Will I need to start a new game once I finished with all the other trophies just to get the trophy for recruiting all companions or (Like Fallout 3) will the companion reset to his original place when you start a DLC where companions are not allowed?

The game is simple enough to play without your companions. But if you feel like you need Rex, then you can find computer systems with red buttons around New Vegas that dismiss your companions. 1 in particular is in the Lucky 38 (Mr House's Casino). At the elevator, to the left (with Victor on the right). Your companions will be dismissed and returned to they're original places where you met them.

Really? I haven't seen these red buttons. I'll check it out now. I'm only getting the companions for the trophy otherwise I get them for company

Edit: Just googled this and I can't find any thing on resetting them. Looks like I 'll just have to wait till I get home to check

I had the same issue when I played the game. Lost a companion somewhere, and sweated it out until I figured out that you can reset it at the Lucky 38, or by going to one of the DLC locations (i.e. Lonesome Road, etc). Your companion(s) should be sent back to their origins when you go that route. Good luck!

Yeah it should work. You also wouldn't be able to play the DLC's as you can't take them into these areas. So I'm guessing they put those consoles in to help with this and other things.

I know the issue is resolved but you can also dismiss your companions at the terminal beside Gun Runners.

Yeah your right. I actually had a save at that exact spot after plating the game. But thought the lucky 38 was easier to explain seeing as it was story related instead of the Gun Runners terminal which you have to discover. There is a fair number of terminals in the game. Half are in obvious places. But it really takes learning the game as much as possible in order to find them.
