No, the stories aren't connected so you'll be fine to play this without having played 2.

It's pretty although the story is a little slow at the start but the action makes up for that.

FC2 had some reported glitchiness with one or more trophies.

I was underwhelmed by FC2 as everything was too scripted. Like you drive down a road and hit a militia checkpoint and get shot at...cars come in, try to run you over, gunfight ensues, you drive away, one minute later, another militia checkpoint and it starts over again. It's just the same crap over and over.

It gets annoying because everywhere you go people want to beef you so you are continually getting side tracked.

I'd be skeptical for FC3 and wait for some reviews after its been out a few weeks, but that's just my personal opinion.

Yea i was realy skeptical to far cry 3 to, but dont be. This game is pretty funny and do feel much like far cry 1. I to was realy realy disappointed about far cry 2 i actually throwed it in the garbage. Far cry 3 I Like the side missions hunting animal and humans and taking over camp's is alot of fun. If you liked far cry 1 i think you will enjoy this to.

Far cry 1 = best of the bunch
    Far cry 2 = frustrating
Far cry 3 = Saboteur crossed with Uncharted

Its good and worth playing quite a few collectibles but you can see those on the maps, you need the extra Uplay code to go online after level 15 if you want to go online to play co-op

although i agree with your assessment on far cry 2, i have to disagree with 1 and 3. 1 was really good but 3 is by far hands down undeniable the best of the series.

    more on topic:
3 has nothing to do with 2 and is a blast to play. yes the story takes just a bit to get going but boy once it does you better hold on for the ride.

From what I've read, it sounds like Just Cause 2 with crafting (going outpost to outpost, blowing stuff up). Is that somewhat accurate?

Quite accurate actually. i kept feeling it was very similar to just cause 2. there are ups and downs to both games obviously but FC3 has not disappointed me yet and it's one of the few games lately that i haven't been able to put down.
