Final Fantasy XIII-2: Variety's The Name of the Game Trailer

Puzzles? Casino slot? Horse racing? Yea, we are talking about Final Fantasy XIII-2. Square Enix's latest FF offering is full of variety that didn't exist in the previous versions. We think it's quite refreshing considering the over saturated gameplay from the previous FF games. Check out the video for more info and be sure to get the game when it arrives Jan 31st on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Just watched this a few minutes ago, although that was in German

The puzzles look rather boring and annoying to me, everything else looks pretty cool.

    Thanks for sharing this mate

It's looking more engaging than XIII. I just hope these extras feel like they're part of the game world and aren't just tacked on because of the negative backlash against XIII.

This is what FFXIII should of been like instead of only the monster hunts. I can't wait to pick up my copy now and start working towards finishing everything. Not to mention the monster system is going to fill hundreds of hours.

Yep, puzzles and slot machines, definitely NOT allowed in the RPG genre, anywhere. I mean seriously, WTF is SE thinking?

if they are using "We have non-rpg stuff" as a main selling point (they made a trailer for it, don't tell me it isn't a main selling point) in a RPG they are obviously doing something wrong

Yep, I'm going to tell you that isn't the main selling point. Did you see the trailer for "The Last of Us"? Did you then read how the producers came out and said "yeah, the trailer had zombies, but it's not a zombie game. that's not what this is about".

It's pretty common for trailers to focus on a small part of the game rather than the whole game.

Everywhere you read about FFXIII-2, it's still classified as JRPG. If your argument is they're blurring the lines of their genre a bit, that's okay, but they're certainly not parading around lying about which genre they belong to. They are still firmly planted in the JRPG genre.

Ps360, are you ever happy? What would you do with yourself if you didn't have something to whine and cry about, if you were left without some issue on which to throw bombs and try to incite shit (e.g. SOPA, Occupy Wall Street)? Or are you one of those people who has to try and make everyone around you miserable in an attempt to make yourself feel better?

    ....

If you don't like it, don't buy it. But don't tell us that we should ignore the game because you don't like it -- you aren't the Boss of us.

There was a laundry list of complaints about FFXIII. It seems to me that Square Enix has made a concentrated effort to address those complaints and make a game their fans are more likely to enjoy. It may not work, but more power to them for leaving their comfortable little box and trying.
