Another review in. Famitsu gave the game a score of 40/40, one of the few perfect scores by the gaming magazine.

FFXIII was a fantastic game and i enjoyed every moment of it. Improving on the few weak areas of FFXIII almost guarantees the game will be something special and im not surprised by these reviews. Hopefully this will restore the series back to its former glory.

Having enjoyed XIII I was already excited for the sequel, but a perfect score from Famitsu? This takes it to a whole other level and I'm beginning to wonder if Square-Enix really has something special on their hands.

Hey, feel free to add me (Coconutz) on PSN!

Couldn't agree with you more. I am truly excited for this game!

Wow, I wasn't expecting to see a perfect score from Famitsu. I was already excited to play XIII-2, but I won't until I XIII. Now, this makes the wait even worse, but it should motivate more to go finish off XIII as quickly as possible .

Famitsu isn't exactly a credible review team. Dengeki, ok..but I'd still prefer to hear the opinions of the fans once they get the game. FF13 was massively hated/disliked (justifiably so) in Japan, in just a few weeks after its release it had gotten to the point where you could buy the game for a third of its retail price. And stores were filled with used copies that customers returned.

Lets see what happens this time around. It probably won't be as big of an impact (assuming the game is lack-luster) since people going to buy this game know what to expect based on 13.

The first English review of the game is by OXM US. The site gives the game a score of 9.0, and said that 'it repairs almost every problem'.

    OXM US - 9.0/10

Game Informer gave the game a score of 8.0/10, which is much lower than FFXIII's score. The story and music are the reviewer's main criticisms.

psmk2, a Japanese website gave the game a score of 52/100. Their complaints include that the game is a CG Movie RPG, horrible story, bad ending, and mixed reaction towards the soundtrack.

The site is like Japanese version of Metacritic. You can go and check the direct link here:

    ファイナルファンタジーXIII−2 レビュー(評価) :: PlayStation mk2

(Use Google Translate if you don't understand Japanese)

    Or, you can look here:

I am not sure how they get the average score, but from what I see, there are only about 8.7% reviewers that gave the game a score between 70-100, and most of the scores given by the reviewers range between 30-69.

To be honest, I don't know whether it is credible source, but the site seems legit enough.

It's pretty hilarious how cynical the Japanese gamer has become. Their complaining about story and ending considering the way their books and movies have been done for the last couple decades is pretty hilarious. One of the user reviews is comparing it to an Atlus game (wtf?).

What I take is that people either love or hate the casino and chocobo racing features, and a lot feel that the items should go on forever like an NIS game. Seems people feel the sidequests don't branch enough either - which I am not quite sure how many sidequests from games actually do branch out (aside from something like Fallout: New Vegas).

So I am guessing because the ending is supposedly inconclusive that they believe the game's story is shit - and because the music isn't Uematsu's it sucks to start as well (as stated in the negative reviews), and the fact that grinding won't let you go to the obsessive NIS level, that sucks too. So aside from that and it appears that the game plays much better and does offer you a ton more freedom than it's previous installment - it sucks according to this site.

In all fairness it's only 35 people's (at the time of me posting this) opinion so it doesn't hold much weight. Just looking at some other reviews, they called InFamous 2 average (C), and LittleBigPlanet 2 was good (B). Portal 2 only ended up with 69 points, so they are just a bunch of idiots who post negative shit about anything.

Actually after reading their reviews, anything that isn't NIS, Gust, or Idea Factory - gets a bad review - so don't hold that site as anything except a gathering of those companies fanboys.

Need help? Just ask (blank friend requests will always be ignored)

I think i would trust Famitsu and Dengeki reviews over psmk2.

    Awesome, another polarizing FF!

These usually end up being the good ones.
Gauss's Piracy Uncertainty Principle: When you pirate a game, that act inherently changes the results of what is to come after your pirating. You can't make any statement with any certainty regarding what would have happened had you not pirated the game.

    Gauss's Rating Rationale:
0-1: A game whose very existence is abhorrent to all things creative and intelligent.
2-4: A just plain bad game.
5-6: A game that has alot of mistakes, but is atleast playable and has some enjoyable sections. Good for a rent.
7: An average game, should be played at some point
8: A good game, should buy at some point
    9: A great game, day-one purchase
10: A game that goes above and beyond the generation, its transcendent.
