First off I want no one to say that there's a similar thread okay? Good. Many of you are exiting because of my crappy intro, or you read some of my posts and realized that I'm the idiot who posts really stupid threads. Well here's my second good one.
Okay, the title says it all. So here are some of my strategies; If you are very patient with the shooting games (like me) then you are better off using stealth, or at least trying to. Even if it doesn't look like a stealth mission, it can be if you do it right. This though limits the action of the game but it can still be quite fun, like in SOCOM Combined Assault for the ps2, basically every mission can be stealthed. <----- NOT A WORD.
If you are not patient then assault is a good choice for you. Although it makes the mission harder and having enemies shooting at you all over the place, it has a lot of action. I do this when I'm experienced at the game so if it's your very first time playing the game, I don't recommend this.
And there's balanced, which is a little stealth, a little assault. Most games are like this, or the whole game is assault, it depends how you play it. Don't forget to post your strategies below, and try other peoples too. Who knows? It might be a good one.

I believe you are posting this thread in hopes to learn a little bit more about different techniques and thus adopting them in your future gameplay.
So keeping that in mind, I would say that the game determines the techniques, it may be as simple as kick-in the door and run in guns blazing, or, on the other end, total espionage, like MGS.
I've never tried Socom, so I'm uncertain how I would approach that particular game, but in general for FPS I like to consider myself a hiding in the shadows type of player...if that makes sense.
Good luck with future threads
