Homebrew allows Vita to play PS3 games via remote play

basically, the PS3 has CFW (Custom FirmWare) that disables limitations for remote play, and the vita is able to play games due to it, like a local onlive.

That's pretty cool, i assumed there'd be some kind of huge lag as IGN made out.

IGN is basically the fox news of Video game news (hell, they are owned by news corp, who owns fox news.)

it's the reason why everyone thinks homebrew instantly means piracy and when someone proves them wrong they bring out the <company name here> Defense force, reject all logic and pretend they are right.

So, any idea why Sony doesn't make it a normal feature and why we need to use homebrew in order to acces it?

Last I heard it's because Sony are still working out all the creases for OFW RemotePlay.

Though I actually thought those videos showed the OFW Remote play o.o

So will this be allowed when it's released in the US or will they disable it?

You've got to wonder why this sort of feature isn't enabled in the official firmware. Maybe it's the lag or some other technical glitch, because it's a pretty strong selling point for the Vita.

Actually, its because terminal applications all have lag. All of them.

    ALL. OF. THEM.

Its not physically possible to implement something like this without having a real, measurable lag. Only question is if it matters to your end result, IGN is providing some type of analysis and I'm sure its influenced by some of the terminal programs which are out in industry right now, MirrorLink is a good example, which have real lag to them. Particularly when streaming HD content.

In this case, there is some lag, but it doesn't seem particularly significant. I still would like to judge it with my own two hands because the camera doesn't do a phenomenal job of capturing everything. I am sure its awkward to play the VITA like that.

As far as homebrew, yeah some people say its about piracy, but just as many say its about cheating. Both of them have their nuggets of truth, more of an implied correlation (i.e. it makes less work to get to where you want to go).

I wouldn't universally dismiss the opinion anymore than I would universally accept that homebrew is all on the up-and-up. I've just never understood why the SDK is hidden away, you can release the SDK but still require licensing for official apps.

Its gonna have to go the way of the dodo bird eventually, micro-transactions and point-of-sale licensing is the way of the future. You'll still have to do traditional licensing for physical releases, but most homebrewers don't want to do that.

Sony put this app on the PSN store for 2 bucks, it'd make a fortune.

Gauss's Piracy Uncertainty Principle: When you pirate a game, that act inherently changes the results of what is to come after your pirating. You can't make any statement with any certainty regarding what would have happened had you not pirated the game.

    Gauss's Rating Rationale:
0-1: A game whose very existence is abhorrent to all things creative and intelligent.
2-4: A just plain bad game.
5-6: A game that has alot of mistakes, but is atleast playable and has some enjoyable sections. Good for a rent.
7: An average game, should be played at some point
8: A good game, should buy at some point
    9: A great game, day-one purchase
10: A game that goes above and beyond the generation, its transcendent.
