Sony Considering PS3-Vita Bundle for Christmas

Sony has revealed a PS3 and Vita combo bundle is a genuine possibility for this Christmas.

In an interview with CVG, Sony UK head Fergal Gara said that the creation of cross-play meant that it made sense to pair up the two consoles in one retail package.
I think there's scope to have deals where people buy both the Vita and PS3, along with cross-play games and get a discount.

"We'd have nothing against that whatsoever," he revealed. "And it's not out of the question that we would do that this Christmas if we wanted to.
"We put together packages for retail, and there's no reason why we shouldn't create a 'Vita plus PS3' bundle, which could feature games that use cross-play, as well as include a PlayStation Plus subscription that both devices could use."
Gara went on to say that the bundle would underline the connectivity between the two devices, which can function in a similar way to Nintendo's upcoming Wii U.
He explained, "There is really a story there of the two consoles building a partnership. 'Better together', as I say. If we want to continue to promote the partnership between PS3 and Vita, we have to look at ways in which we can show that.
"Is a dual-console bundle box a perfect solution to that? I'm not sure, but I think there's scope to have deals where people buy both the Vita and PS3, along with cross-play games and get a discount."

Personally I think it's a great idea for other console owners or just new gamers.

But it isn't of use to use gamers already, unless we need a new ps3.

True, but it would be good for newbies. Package it with Playstation All-Stars (the only retail cross-play game before Christmas) and boom, a good "welcome to Playstation" package. The two work together a lot anyway, so it makes sense.

Unless gamers want the new model, or their old model got YLOD'd or broken, and want a Vita.

Sort of a small niche market. I dont see it doing well and most parents wouldnt buy it because it'd cost too much probably.

That would be pretty cool. I need to upgrade my PS3, but I already have a Vita. Wish they made this a month ago. >_>

That's a good idea from Sony. I wonder what kind of a price they will have for the bundle? We don't need it, but it would be nice for new gamers or ones looking for an upgrade.

so sony is planning to sell a ps3 and vita together,

    ps3 costs $249, Vita costs $249

    aka $500. for outdated hardware.

or you can get a wii u for $300-350 with next gen hardware and a great lineup of games.

aka if sony wants to lose tons of profit this holiday to match up to the wii u pricing, this is a great idea

I think it's a good idea. I have been looking into replacing my fat PS3, so this would be good because I also get a Vita (which I also want).

it's all economics here. People won't spend $500 on something thats been out for 7 years.

It's hardly ''next-gen'' really. Also, why wouldn't they put something like this out? Does it hurt anybody? No, it doesn't. People already want a system with many more games and much more support for it when they buy it. Also, this is a good deal for anyone who may have been wanting a PS3 and a Vita, but haven't taken that final leap to get it. Or anyone who has an older PS3 wants an upgrade. So sure, why not get it?

Thanks to Bladia for the amazing Sig and Avy.

While I slightly agree, it's really the wrong site to bring it up on.

And has the Vita been out for 7 years already? Time sure flies.

It will hurt sony if they put it at a price tag below $500. No one wants a 7 year old console unless it's for a good price and The Vita has nothing memorable on it yet. It will hurt sonys profits if they lower a price on such a bundle, something a Sinking company absolutely needs (money).

also i love how sony fans keep pulling out the "Wii U isn't next gen" argument even though they have been proven wrong multiple times.

HAHA I thought it was a great Idea until I read the stupid Nintendo post….The only reason in which I believe Nintendo hasn't shut down yet is because of Mario…I would buy a third ps3 with a vita before buying another product of nintendo

There's many more franchises that have been milked dry by Nintendo.
