Chatted with anyone found with 'Near' app?

    Heyo,

Just curious if anyone has attempted to contact someone their PSV's 'Near' app has found, either by travelling with it, or people around your home.

I personally have never attempted to contact anyone, and I only game at home (downtown apartment), but there is 32 people within my Vita's immediate area (2 kilometers). I have looked at a few PSN profiles to gauge how involved with PS3/Vita gaming they are, and it appears most are just light gamers.

I'm somewhat interested what others have found, and if they've ever been motivated to contact someone nearby.

I have not and don't like the idea of it either.
I'm fairly sure that the conversation would go along the lines of porn ad's only with the word 'fuck' being changed to game. Either that or some wording of 'go away'

I had a bunch of people around me add me as friends...I'm not too picky until one says " hi how old are you, I'm 11"... I'm gonna be a bit more picky from now on lol.

Like Bigjay said, I get a lot more blank friend requests now from people and that I have no idea where they came from. I never played a game with them or nothing. Then I realize it must be from Near, and they're only adding me for my plat count.

Thanks to Bladia for the amazing Sig and Avy.

Oh wow, i've gotten a couple of friend requests and had no idea where they came from. I'm going to check my Near app tonight when I get home and see if this is indeed the case. There are less than 10 Vita owners near me, so it won't be a huge list.

This started happening to me and i don't have a vita so i had no idea what was going on until a friend of mine told me about the app. i'm very picky when i add PSN friends since its usually just cause i've got the word Girl in my name, so i would reply back to each blank asking how they got my name and to see if they can actually hold a conversation. Not ONE answered truthfully. Its actually starting to get annoying now.

I would imagine blank friend requests are more likely to come from posting our PSN handles online (world wide) on places like this site, as opposed to the people in our immediate physical vicinity.

I've had a lot of PSN spam from sites like this alone, long before I owned a Vita and used Near. And 'Near' is Vita specific - you need to own a Vita and CHOOSE to broadcast your PSN ID. You can use the app, and still remain anonymous, as I believe by default, it will hide your ID.

If someone is contacting you using 'Near', I would imagine they would explain that in the message in hopes that they're more likely to get a response from someone in the same area, as opposed to some random stranger half a world away.

Most of the gamers near me have a trophy level of 3-6 but have a TON of games and none have games in common with me. Maybe I just need to buy more games

Yeah I'm fine with it as long as it stays anonymous. One friend request asked what grade I was in. Awkward...

Actually i had a totally opposite experience with near. For fun I just added 10 people around me using near and got to know a couple of pretty active psn folks. There are of course the annoying idiots to be found but that is with everything online.

You can normally tell by someone's profile how involved they are. And I also remove folks from my friends list if they have not logged in after 30 days or so, just to keep my list active and not full all the time

Thanks to Djunglist for the great Signature pic!

    *bump*

Somewhat related (and I didn't want to make a new post about it), yet has anyone noticed a big jump in the users in their area since Christmas? Mine jumped from a usual 35-48 people located, to about 86 located tonight. Lots of people must have gotten Vita's as presents.

i've always noticed a lot of people around my friend's house (about 79 within the area)
i wouldn't know anything about the "Vita for Christmas" cuz i haven't been using it that much except for music

not that i don't like it, it's my first touch-screen thing and i am still highly impressed, but the ps3 was first and i have a lot of catching up to do as far as gaming....now if Remote Play worked like it should, i'd be using it for that just so i could play my games with headphones, but...

anyways, on the original topic....i've thought of adding a couple people from Near, i just never have...i've gotten like 4-6 blank friend requests recently, but they've never said anything to me, nor i to them (i don't talk to people often, cuz i start a conversation and immediately i have nothing to say, so i feel kinda stuck)
Add me if you want (soulless94), as long as you don't randomly delete me for no reason
If I randomly add you, it's because you're awesome...wanted an answer? There it is. =]

I've noticed the same thing. When I got my vita in July there was barely 20 others showing up on Near but now that the holidays have passed it's jumped to almost 100.
