On XMB, go to Settings>System Settings>Backup Settings>Restore. Obviously, while your hard drive with the backup is plugged in.
Hey. Hey. Look. Look at me. I'm playing video games.

Did you make the files FAT32 format on the external drive?

The ps3 won't recognize if it's in NTFS

Does your ps3 find the external hard drive on the XMB?

If so go into it and press the triangle button, then select the Show All or All Files options

This may sound like an obvious thing, but does your external drive have any sort of power lead that isn't plugged in?
also by the time i've written this you may already have a reply but just go to the music or video section or any section really and it'll show your external drive, press triangle > show all hidden files. (something along those lines)
