Valve Cuts PS3 and PC Versions of CS:GO Apart

    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive loses cross-play | Joystiq

A lot can change in six months. As of last summer, Valve had planned to offer cross-play for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the PC, Mac, and PS3. But based on what it's learned from the beta, Valve has decided to strip the functionality in favor of offering constant updates for players on the PC and Mac.

"The beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC," Valve's Chet Faliszek revealed to Joystiq. "To do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn't hamstring the other. So for that, we have removed the idea of cross-platform play -- essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them."

If you would like to get into the ongoing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta, fill out Valve's survey. If you want cross-play back in the game, wait to sign one of the dozens of online petitions currently being created.

PS3 holdin pc gamers back in terms of updates is the reason why they didn't keep cross-platform play with computers and ps3.

you will never see true pc master race glory on the ps3.

Meh, the game will still be available on the PS3, so I don't care. Such a shame we now won't be able to see PC master racers bithcing because a console gamer shot their head off, or vice versa.

Yes, or Portal 2, which you can play on the PS3 with a friend who is playing on his Steam account on the PC.

sorry that console policies are terrible

valve can just throw it on steam instantly the moment they are done.

sony/microsoft scan the updates like they are looking for adnormal amoebas for days before updating it on their platform.

for a multiplayer cross-platform game patches are valuable.

It's likely to do with the patch approval process on PS3 and resultant cross-platform version lag.

Valve pushes a ridiculous number of patches for their PC software and if CS:GO's anything like the stupid hat-fest that is TF2 these days, they only have themselves to blame.

No big deal...I'll still be plucking PS3 heads using a mouse and keyboard.

I highly doubt that'll happen, specially because CS's fanbase is very different from TF2's and they surely won't like that bullshit.

They're planning to sell weapons and outfits as DLC for CS:GO. It won't be to same extent as TF2 in terms of comic value and variety (CS being a more serious game), but it will happen.

The split may also have to do with the modding community. CS has a huge array of fan-made maps and maybe Valve see that as a problem that will end up fracturing the PC and PS3 communities down the track. So why not split the two to keep the core PC guys (which number in the gazillions) happy from the outset?

I didn't even think about what this could mean for console support of modded maps. That sucks.

Meh, I can't seem to understand why it's a big deal honestly. As long as it's available for both systems, then that's all that truly matters. That's the way I see it.
