Could be a multitude of problems. You should really describe your set up a little better. Also, have you tested your net on your computer or laptop. Is the modem/router in the same room? Did you try swapping out the ethernet cable?

Is your ethernet cable strung between rooms or do you have it down the inside of the wall via attic or crawl space? Have you taken the ethernet cable from the back of the PS3 and tested it on a computer/laptop?

There's that too. However, it's starting to sound more like a bad ethernet cable. If you are tech savvy enough, redo your network setting if your ethernet cable works on another device.

So if i understand this correctly you have to keep disconnecting your modem to swap rooms between your ps3 and pc?, i can already tell you thats a bad idea and it might be the cause of your problem.. get a wireless connection or stop disconnecting your modem
