I currently have the Cisco Linksys EA4500 App Enabled N900 Dual-Band Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB. I have it for at least a month and it works great for me. It also helps that they have a built in WPA2 to make sure that no one tries to connect to your network illegally. Thanks to get I haven’t experienced any log or drops in connection. The price tag of the router might make you cringe ($180-$200), but it's worth the investment.

For the most part the router won't matter too much. It's your internet speed that is the main reason you're lagging. To improve your speed as much as possible without upgrading your plan you should make sure you aren't downloading anything while you play online or aren't streaming music or videos.

I'm connected to the PSN trough ethernetcable. I swear by cable. Just bought me a router for wifi because of my girlfriend. Still playing PS3 with cable, pc and the rest trough wifi now.
I have a simple Belkin router, but it is placed just beneath my television and in the room where we sit the most.
    No problems at all.
