Resident Evil took that crown to it's grave, dead space is just some shoot em' up tps set in a dark environment.
I'm waiting for Shinji Mikami's next game codenamed Zwei, been waiting for some sort of announcement from him for over 5 years.

I thought they were creepy/scary/make you jump. Fantastic games though and eerie sounds definitely set the mood.

I never found either of the Dead Spaces scary. They were just so much fun to play that it was NEVER scary for me. Have lights on, expect that there will be only a few moments where it tries to scare you, expect it to be dark, and just a little creepy in terms of creatures. Know this and you'll be fine.

Thanks to Bladia for the amazing Sig and Avy.

The Silent Hill Vs Resident Evil debate has been done to death. So I'm not going to go into it.

But I will say this: At least Silent Hill stayed true to it's genre (Except Silent Hill: Homecoming and Shattered Memories... those sucked). Survival Horror. I will admit though, Resident Evil 4 was good. Other than that, Resident Evil has lost it's way.

Wow, trains is really trolling this thread. : D

First DS = Somewhat scary, jump moments
Second DS = focuses on action

They're both worth playing, despite what some people will say.

And there's me who almost had a heart attack just by playing the demo... seriously, about 30 seconds in Isaac has an hallucination and I rocketed backwards in pure terror. You should have played in the dark, loud volume though!

Oh, I forgot to say, this was the DS2 demo...

But to be fair, it was 2AM, I was home alone in the dark and I had never seen or heard about DS before, I didn't even know it was a horror so I was not expecting a thing.

Bah what a load of rubbish. Resident Evil is fantastic but Silent Hill 2 is the greatest survival horror game I've ever played. The original three are top drawer even if 1 and 3 have silly cult stories.

Well exactly, if you dont expect it I am sure it would be scary. I got the first DS when I heard it was fun but extremely scary. I think its those thoughts that made not so terrifying for me.

Thanks to Bladia for the amazing Sig and Avy.

I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Trains. Dead Space is over-rated.

I was never that scared in Dead Space because I was looking to get the trophies so every time something popped on screen I would think "great, more limbs for"

Scary is a bad way to describe these games.

Dead Space 1 and 2 are about atmosphere and tension. The games aren't scary, they are tense. Its the type of game that will have you antsy in your chair.
Gauss's Piracy Uncertainty Principle: When you pirate a game, that act inherently changes the results of what is to come after your pirating. You can't make any statement with any certainty regarding what would have happened had you not pirated the game.

    Gauss's Rating Rationale:
0-1: A game whose very existence is abhorrent to all things creative and intelligent.
2-4: A just plain bad game.
5-6: A game that has alot of mistakes, but is atleast playable and has some enjoyable sections. Good for a rent.
7: An average game, should be played at some point
8: A good game, should buy at some point
    9: A great game, day-one purchase
10: A game that goes above and beyond the generation, its transcendent.

Yeh I 100% agree, the majority of the game you are just expecting something to jump out due to the noises and darkness etc, but they rarely do. Things usually only jump out when you're least expecting it. Around almost every corner you think something will appear, and in the end it's just your own expectancy that determines how 'scary' you find this game. You always fear the worst.
