    (RUMOR) PS4 in deep World Exclusive First Specs

    Today some rumors were found that some world exclusive in deep first specs may have been leaked. In the article a list of different specs of the system were listed.


    In the article the following specs were listed:

    TLDR SPECS
    CPU
    • 4 core (2 core pairs) 3.2 GHz AMD x86 (Steamroller)
    • aggregate, 10x PS3 PPU performance
    • 512 KByte L2 per core pair
    • 64 bit pointers
    GPU
    • AMD R10x series GPU @ 800 MHz (Tahiti)
    • aggregate 10x RSX performance, 1.84 TFlops
    • DX11.5″
    • cheap branching
    • 18 compute units, focus on fine grained compute & tessellation
    MEMORY:
    • 2 GByte UMA, pushing for 4 GByte
    • 192 GByte/ sec non-coherent access for e.g. GPU
    • 12 GByte/ sec coherent access for CPU
    • >50% longer memory latency for CPU/ GPU compared to PC!!!
    • DXT is lowest bpp texture compression format
    MEDIA:
    • 50 GByte BD drive
    • PCAV, between 3.3 and 8x BD, most likely clamped to 6x
    • automatic background caching to HDD
    • HDD SKU with at least 380 GByte
    • downloadable games
    EXTRA HARDWARE:
    • video encoder/ decoder
    • audio processing unit, ~200 concurrent MP3 streams
    • HW zlib decompressor


    This is just a rumor as of right now, but if it is true this is pretty interesting.

    Quad core isn't much. 3.2 GHz is good, but may pass quickly.
    Especially now that phones are getting up to that much soon.

    I hope it's a rumor, because that sounds underpowered, compared to what one would come to expect from a console that won't be released for, at least, 2 more years.

    This^. i honestly do not even feel like thinking about it because i am not buying the newest sony console until 2016 or 2017 at least. Bought my ps3 three years ago and feel like i just started my journey so my ps3 will be going for a long time.

    Don't believe that for a second. Unreal Engine 4 will work on mobile phones all the way through to high-end PCs.

    It'll be highly optimised to work on all platforms, even more so than Unreal Engine 3 which powers Infinity Blade, Batman Arkham City Lockdown etc on iOS.

    Blizzard said it themselves that Unreal Engine 4 would have difficulties for running even on next-gen consoles because its tech was so advanced.

    I'd assume they'd still tweak the engine between now and when next-gen consoles do end up coming out, so that it could work, but yeah, that's what I was referring to.

    It's too early to know, at this stage it's all hyperbole. What Cliffy isn't saying is that they've built Unreal Engine 4 to run on computer specs five years into the future and it'll be dumbed-down to run on average gear of today, all the way down to smart phones and tablets.

    The problem with Cliffy's "UE4 won't run full-tilt" scenario is it's exorbitantly expensive to build a computer to those specs today, let's say $3000-$5000 based on current hardware prices. There's no way a $400 console is going to include those components if released in 2013 / 14.

    Ergo, it's not up to Sony and MS to create hardware to run Unreal Engine 4 at max specs - the market won't tolerate console price tags of $1000+ to make it achievable. It's up to Cliffy and team to run their engine on whatever MS and Sony produce for the next generation. As coders get better at squeezing performance from fixed hardware specs, we'll get closer to that max as time passes.

    Wait and see, it won't be a problem. Sony has stated they're not releasing a new console until there's a noticeable step-up in performance and bells and whistles. Otherwise, there's no incentive for any of us to upgrade from the PS3 and it'd be doomed from the start.

    Why would microsoft give anyone DirectX, The xbox is named after it.


    Everything that isn't microsoft uses OpenGL. Wii U, PS3, etc.
