Nope, most games don't have 1080p, it switches to 720p because that's the highest quality most games can run in, however very few games have full 1080p HD, like Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, WipEout HD. While first party (exclusive) games are only 720p like LittleBIGPlanet, inFAMOUS, Uncharted etc.

Just select all the options on your ps3 and it will automatically select the highest res for the game when you start it up

Does your HDTV even support 1080p?

Anyways, most games run in 720p, you rarely see a game that runs in 1920p x 1080p. The only game I have that runs in 1080p is MW3, I do not know why because it says 720p on back cover. But yeah, most games run in 720p. Can you post what game you found this out on?

It is an 1080p 3d lg led smart tv and the games it does this with are Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and GTA4 , they both say 1080p on back , when a play them it switches from 1080p to 720p , the blu ray's play in 1080p no problem and if I go into settings , display and deactivate 720p and 1080i it will play the game in 1080p but it's a pain in the ass to keep changing , it's not a major issue but would be nice if it done it automatically like it should , I cant understand why its not

I think there is a setting to have it always on 1080p if possible, my 1080p game is automatically 1080p. I say you fool around with the display settings, and see if you can find a answer. If not, post back here that you couldnt and I will help you figure it out because I used to have that problem and it was a pain in the ass.

Yes I tried to just leave 1080p on but when I put a game in that doesn't support 1080p then it will switch to the PS3's lowest setting of 576p , as I said if I turn the others off I get 1080p but then have to turn them back on for normal 720p games its a pain cause a been switching it back and fourth for a long time , it's not the tv cause my old 1080p lcd tv did the exact same and it was a different brand Samsung

simple but expensive solution for always 1080P resolution . pass trough your 720P signal in AV receiver and upgrate your signal resolution in 1080P

I have an Samsung LED smart TV and when playing CoD Black Ops the resolution looks like a 3DS playing a DS game (blurry). so is this the same thing as what everyone is talking about.

It's because these games native resolution is actually 720p, not 1080. If you have 720 selected, the ps3 will automatically go to the games native resolution instead of upscaling it to the highest it can be played at. The boxes have 1080 on the back because they can be forced to be played in 1080 if you make it.
