Beyond Good and Evil 2 to be a next gen game.

Elusive sequel Beyond Good & Evil 2 has made the jump to next-generation platforms due to scope limitations, creator Michel Ancel has revealed.

Speaking to the chaps at GamesRadar, Ancel said the project, which was first unveiled back in 2008, ran into “some technical issues” during development, describing it as a “complex game.”

“The first Beyond Good & Evil, when I sent the technical document to Sony, it was the time of the Emotion Engine on the PlayStation 2,” said Ancel. “We had the feeling that we could do whatever we wanted. We sent them the document, it was about planets, going from planet to planet, towns to towns and all these things. But in the end, what we were really about to do was far less than what we wanted.”

“And of course, the scope of Beyond Good & Evil is large – you’ve got the city, the ocean, the moon and the space ship. But the space ship was designed to go from planet to planet, and it was frustrating to have those limitations.”

“And my thing is that we really want to make the game that was previously imagined, with all this feeling of traveling. Mass Effect did a good job on that side, and I think that there are a lot of things to do to continue in that direction, with storytelling and a massive world.”

Quizzed if this was indeed the reason behind the game’s delay, Ancel replied, “yeah, yeah. That’s the reason.”

Ancel originally confirmed that development on Beyond Good & Evil 2 had shifted to next-gen consoles back at E3 in June.

Well its nice to hear some news on this as I always thought it was another one of those mythical games that you always hear about through a rumor but was never planned on being made.

Didn't think we would be seeing a PS4 anytime in the next few years. Maybe it is nearer than that then if some devs are already working on games for it.

What...the hell is this guy actually wanting to pull off? Going from planet to planet in real time or something? As in you start on the ground, hop in your ship, take off and fly into space, then travel around the solar system? With no loads in between?

IE: GTA in space or something?

Isn't Dust 514 doing something similar? Not neccesarily the travel aspect, but the going from ground to space part?
