Well there really hasn't been a new Pong game in awhile. But if you would like to go by the actual first game ever made Teninis For Two, then I would say that would be the longest.

I mean Tennis For Two came out in 1958 and they are still making games like Top Spin.

So in the end Tennis wins as the all time champion. Take that

Hmm, I have a few on my list:

    Need for Speed
    FIFA
    Tetris
    NBA

I think these will last the longest before dying out, as they were around in the 1900s. Games like Call of Duty which each have a 2 year development cycle between 2 developers (hence an installment each year) might eventually die out due to a probable lack of ideas (and a customer base of which 85% are people under 12 yrs). People think it's "rehashed", but in truth the only ones which have been "rehashed" are the installments after Call of Duty 4: MW1 (2007) and Call of Duty: WaW (2008). Call of Duty BO II doesn't seem to be rehashed so they might finally be thinking of new ideas.

The Megaman, Metal Gear, Zelda, Mario, Pac-Man, Final Fantasy, Metroid and Donkey Kong franchices have been around for at least 20 years each, and the only ones I could see coming to an end would be Metal Gear (whenever Kojima dies and if Konami can't temper with it) and Donkey Kong (it's been a while since that got an actual stand-alone game). The rest could keep going on for pretty much forever.

Even if Mario would die, Nintendo will put strings on his corpse like a puppet and keep the franchise going. Mario has such a strong presence outside of video games (clothing, toys, cartoons, etc.) that it can keep chugging as some of the other games may fade out.

Final Fantasy has a chance to make it extremely far, but let's be realistic - Final Fantasy is basically just a name more than a true brand anymore. Any given fantasy rpg could be purchased and re-named Final Fantasy.

definitely Call of Duty, Activision/Infinity Ward etc must make so much money from this franchise that i don't see them axing it any time soon.

plus i don't ever see sports games like FIFA ever stopping lol, football will always be around (soccer to Americans)

Mario and Sonic, they will never die unless their companies die because they are mascots...assuming their companies don't can them as mascots like what happened to Crash...poor, poor crash.

Chess. Been around since the 6th century and is STILL played today, WITH digital versions available - including the recent "Pure Chess" on PS3.

If we're talking JUST pure Video Games - then I'm gonna give it to Mario. The character has been around longer than ANY other character, and has remained successful through everything. He's graced every Generation just about, and was spawned from a game, that wasn't even his own, really - because people liked him that much.

Unless Nintendo manages to somehow completely fade from existence - Mario is going to be here for a while.
