Site donations go into paying the server and application costs for the site. As well as upgrades to hardware and software. The donation goal is adjusted to the cost of the equipment from the datacenter. Since Sept 2011, $3690 has been raised from donations, not a large amount but has helped keep the site going and financially solvent to keep up (server costs being anywhere from $300-$500/mo. in that period). Some people have really been great.

And vBulletin isn't all that expensive, hundred or so for a license. And additional licensing fees for upgrades, the majority cost is the CPU power needed to store the data and pull the data that vBulletin uses. Very resource intensive, which means you need a very powerful server for the active users on at a time. Which is the monthly server costs. As well as the uplink needing to be upgraded, because of all the information the server needs to push out per second.

It's cool and scary at the same time.
I had a threesome last night, there were a couple of no shows but I still had a good time!

I salute everyone who has donated, you are all great people who help this wonderful site keep going.
Me? i'm a scumbag who needs all the beer and vidya game money he can get. Christ, i have to rent games now just to live day to day!
Well, i do donate elsewhere and that was a pre-existing arrangement but like that arrangement, i wouldn't expect anything back if i donated here other than the continuation of a fine service. ( that fucked up over a year ago but we are all cool with that now )

To be truthful a domain costs $9.99/year, hosting at gator for about $11/M would hold this site fine. There really is not an excuse to need $200/Month unless there are special things going on.

Personally I'm still considering to donate in the near future just because I think the admin does deserve extra change for the effort of this site and I do use it although I have not started posting yet.

I will donate and become a Pro member soon, just make sure nobody "turns off" the site again.

Why would you expect something out of donating anyway?

do·nate/ˈdōnāt/ Verb: Give (money or goods) for a good cause, for example to a charity.

Charity, you give without the intention of receiving. You donate to keep a site that you otherwise had nothing to do with running. A free website that you can help keep up. If you get something back you should be grateful, not demanding more.

    I's just saying

I think your just guessing. As Sub said the Vbulletin Licence varies depending on what package you get but in the region of $200. The Domain varies but the .com's are usually more expensive. I know for a fact the chat thing at the bottom of your screen costs around $100 or so also. The servers wont be cheap as the more plugins, members, traffic there is the more powerful server you will need. I'm only talking from experience from my previous xbox site I ran similar to this and I had to upgrade my servers as I added more stuff.

    You sure.
I am running the business plan on gator and its like $11/M. I have a forum with 1,300,000+ posts, Members: 50K+ members. There's also an image gallery with over 12K images. The forum is about.......well, I can't say what it's about. Its an 18+ forum. I've been running the gator on that plan the whole time. Sure, they got mad a few times but after fixing some of the forum features that are cpu heavy its been good the whole time.
My guess is that there is a ton more mods in here that are server heavy. Still, I'm sure a $60/M server would easily hold this forum times 10.

A VB License is a one time fee of $249. It includes free upgrades for a year. After the year is up the renewal per year for upgrades is $30.
Unless you lease the vb then its $160 per year always.
The Domain varies but the .com's are usually more expensive.
We are taking nickels and dimes.
Domainsite.com domains are $10.99per year + hidden whois for .50cents per year. The other registerers are give or take a dollar.
I know for a fact the chat thing at the bottom of your screen costs around $100 or so also.
That is Cometchat. A pretty good chat system mod to buy if you ask me. There is several plans from $49 up to $499. I'm guessing this one is the $129 version. This is a one time fee mod, not reoccurring.

Considering admin claims to need $350 a month my guess it that most of it goes to hosting since all of the above it long paid off by now. I still say that the majority is for profit or holding money to re invest into the forum.
I am completely fine with this, but I think admin should be more clear about where exactly donations will go. Even if it to be honest and say that admin salary gets $60 for duties or something like that.

Still I will donate a bit soon enough anyway because I use the site.
