    You are the right age bro. You have to be 17 and have an ID in the USA.

    You meet the age requirements.

    In Australia, the age requirement for MA is 15. In America, the age requirement for the equivalent of MA (M) is 17. I bought two M games in America while on holiday and I'm 15, though the cashier people were nice.

    Anyway to sum up your question:

    America = 17
    Australia = 15

    Everywhere else in the world is basically the same.

    Not as lucky as you think. Yeah our games might be made MA15+ but they cut the gore out of it & we receive a shell of the games you guys get. But after this year that will not be a problem with the release of the R18+ game rating we have coming out.

    There were a few (mostly for PC), but none in the current generation of consoles.

    Oh the R18 rating. Didn't the government take decades to approve the rating?

    That's an exaggeration. A handful of R18+ overseas rated games have had minor edits to meet Oz MA15+. For example, GTAIV lost the hooker sex scene in a cab, Morphine was renamed to Med X in Fallout 3, zombie corpses in Left 4 Dead disappear etc. A few games have been prevented from sale outright, like Mortal Kombat and Syndicate, but they're easily imported from the UK.

    On the flipside, most US M17 /UK R18+ games are rated MA15+ in Australia. If anything, our classification system has been more liberal than any other country in the world. Otherwise games like God of War, Call of Duty, Bioshock, Red Dead Redemption, Resistance, Resident Evil, Borderlands, Dead Island, Dead Space, LA Noire, Killzone, Lollipop Chainsaw etc would be unavailable in Oz, but they made MA15+ with no censorship.

    Yes, but most stores (Gamestop, etc.) don't allow Adult only games on their shelves. Manhunt 2 was AO when it was originally released if I remember correctly.

    Guess people don't read. I'm from UK so mine is the BBFC and PEGI but looking at it seems self explanatory.

    Also a note about the ratings, they are simply guidelines to what is included in the software. You don't need to reach the requirements to buy/use the software, the age requirements on the disc are what the government recommends you being at least when using the disc.

    Yes but they aren't going to let an 8 year old kid alone in Gamestop buy Witcher 2.

    Oh I didn't know that.. that must suck though, cutting out some of the gore on a M rated game.

    All hail R18+

    Just a note for the US and our ESRB system.

    There is no age requirement at all, and a retailer can sell you any video game title that they want if they so choose. Some retailers such as Wal-Mart follow the guidelines strictly, but thanks to the recent US Supreme Court case, video games are protected under the first amendment and are considered art, and like books and artistic pieces - are able to be sold to anyone who wishes to buy them, if a seller chooses to do so.

    I for one disagree with the judgment, but I am in the minority in this case, but when it comes to video games and the US. I've personally seen kids who don't look older than 12 walk out with M rated games, as recently as a couple months ago.

    That's true, I went to GameStop and they let me buy Resistance 3 without having a parent.
