Even something like London would be good ... just something other than the U.S.
I agree with this post. Not knocking that it maybe set in Boston, but I would love to see it somewhere else in the world. Moscow, London, Italy, Australia, hell even in Japan. A Fallout set in Japan wold be EPIC!!! But, not within the USA. Just my opinion.

Boston is an excellent location for the new Fallout. Just so everyone knows, that's where Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is located, and for people who have played Fallout know there is a lot of referencing to "The Institute". Just read the following about it from the Fallout wiki:

The Institute existed long before the Great War, but was originally known as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), it is known that Mr. House attended the Institute in his youth [1]. After the Great War the Massachusetts Institute of Technology survived, but became known to the people of the wasteland as a mysterious organisation, known only as the Institute. Allegedly, it is currently located within the Commonwealth, the name now given in the post-atomic world to what was once the American state of Massachusetts. Little is known about the Institute aside from rumors circulating around the scientists working in the sealed environment. The Institute possesses highly advanced technology and technological skills, resulting in the creation of true artificial intelligence (AI), and are capable of creating androids.

Everyone saying they should take the game somewhere else like Russia, Japan, or China etc... why would they? If it truly is set in Boston, they'll be expanding on the Fallout universe and back story which is awesome news in my opinion.

While MIT is part of the lore, that doesn't unilaterally justify setting a game there.

Why Russia, or Japan, or China? Why Las Vegas? :stare:

Honestly, I just thought it'd be neat and different to have it set somewhere that's not so "close to home". Since you're up on your Fallout lore it seems, China played a key role in the Great War. Why Russia? Because the soviets have always been involved in nuclear proliferation.
There is Chinese influence all throughout the Fallout post-apocalyptic world, much more influence than Boston.

The People's Republic of China, or simply China, was the primary rival of the United States during the twenty-first century ... in the Fallout universe.

I enjoyed both PS3 Fallout titles thoroughly, despite their extremely long laundry list of flaws (aka "bugs").

I think that the Fallout series almost has to take place somewhere in the US. It's an American story, with an American viewpoint that both praises and blasts American ideals. The Chinese play a major part, no doubt, but the game's focal point has always been a very warped view of Americana and the ideals, cultures and mannerisms of the mid-20th century.

Boston should be a stellar setting and feature a unique new perspective to the universe. I wouldn't mind a Boston-New York-Philadelphia super setting in which you explore some more historically relevant spots in the most massive game to date. I love the contrast of urban decay and nuclear fallout that made up downtown DC and New Vegas, and I hope to do some more exploring of those type of settings in this game.

Either way, I am one of those people who can't get enough Fallout (and rolls my eyes when TES title gets announced) and hope that all these rumors lead to something more concrete. Twitter was exploding yesterday when this all started up again, so hopefully Bethesda takes head and gets cracking.

bring back obsidian, don't fuck them in the ass with shitty metacritic contracts, then we will talk.

before anyone claims "well New vegas was buggy" Have you even played any bethesda open world games ever.
You're right, then again you know how people love how something simple get some twists and add morality to the storyline, with close to none real world impact or decision making. Even if you are so damn right about that, Fallout 4 is still being made by Bethesda and I doubt Obsidian will touch Fallout lore in a while, Not only if the company goes in bankrupt or Bethesda just finds someone else to make Fallout 5.

Also I must say Obsidian was forced to use that engine, they said themselves, we would have loved to use our own engine but Bethesda didnt let us and we have to use that buggy ass engine they used on Fallout 3. Still FNV > F3, by far.

On topic, any fallout new is good news to me, although with Bethesda being already busy with ES Online and other game that I dont really remember the name, we wont see fallout 4 launching until 2014 or 2015

I liked NV the first time I played through it because well its Fallout , its not as good as Fallout 3 by any stretch of the imagination , Fallout had a much better sense of adventure and exploration , the tunnels were a huge loss to NV in my opinion , I really loved how you could go down the tunnels and stay down them for hours and then pop up to the ground level at a previously undiscovered part of the ruined city , this for me was what was wrong with NV it was too open , no tunnels and the huge Casinos were basically lifeless , although they do look cool at a distance at night .

I actually hated the train tunnels for the simple fact that they were so easy to get lost in ... and not in the good way. In my opinion, FO3 just had more atmosphere ... maybe it was the Mall.

You're right, I don't actually expect Bethesda to do anything outside of the U.S. It's just wishful thinking on my part. As far as story goes, it could be encapsulated nicely in a story set in China about some U.S. spies or something. Or perhaps U.S. nationals stationed or living in China which, at the time war is declared, have to fend for themselves in the aftermath. There are ways to work around it. I mean, it's no less ridiculous than the Courier looking for his platinum chip.

You hated the tunnels , no way , I loved the fact you could spend hours trying to find your way about them lol , there was probably more shit below ground than above it , I really hope they add the tunnels back into it , they were creepy , dangerous and littered with missions and cool stuff.

Not really a huge fan of the Fallout series but I still haven't played New Vegas so I don't know if that can change. Kinda want to see how this one will look if it does get announced.

I don't think Fallout really works outside of the US because of all of the 1950s American culture in it. Everything from the smiling cartoon guy to the furniture to the music on the radio is 1950s Americana. If you move to, say, China, you lose those aspects of the game. It just wouldn't be Fallout without all of the 50s nuclear culture.

I felt the very same way about the tunnels. I was constantly getting lost in them. Particularly when I was trying to reach some of the areas that are only accessible by using them.

I'll do the same. Seeing that they have a track record of releasing a Ultimate/GOTY version of the fallout games. Gonna wait and then but that particular version
