    Installation Limits

Everyone was pissin and moaning about how much HDD space the installation for Rage was gonna take. I read the other day that PlayStation limits developers how much space they can require to install a game. First I would like to know if this is true. And second I should be able to decide for myself if I want to fully install a game. Not just the minimum requirements. What do you think?

How much hard drive space does Rage take? The game I have that takes the most space that I can remember is Fallout New Vegas at 5gb. I hate when games take up to much space on my hard drive.

ive always wanted to upgrade the HD but ive heard problems with exceptionally large ones . who knows, i just delete old save data so ive been able to keep on top of it... as for developers being held to a limit, thats the first ive heard of it.

Well when I installed it, with the extra DLC stuff all together is about 9gigs.
Space comes and goes.. I don't mind.
If you don't have 9gigs of space then that just means you have an early PS3 model or you should start deleting stuff you don't use.

...you could always download them back

I used to have a 500gb on my FAT PS3... after a few months it started to say it's corrupted and i had to reformat it, or fix it or something idk
    eventually I got the YLOD

NOT SAYING IT CAUSES.. but it just happened. I had the early release models though.
And now I have a slim.. I want to upgrade, but yeah.. lazy.
I'll do it when I have to.

Ultimitly I would like to have the choice of installing the game on the hdd like you can on the 360. Shorter load times and wear and tear on your system.

I dont get why people complain about the size of games, it isn't that big deal if you want more games buy a bigger harddrive

I have over 40 games and most of them fit on my 120GB harddrive

Well if the Blu-ray drive was better, then you wouldn't need these install. But there are some benefits of these install.

On Xbox 360, RAGE requires 22GB.

....but then again, I don't know if that's digital or on disc.

The biggest i've ever known for PS3 is inFamous 2, which is 15GB on digital.

I think the install for RAGE on the 360 includes the multiplayer portions so that you dint have to put that disc in though I'm not 100% sure about that.

I don't care about the install size for RAGE at all, to be honest I've played a few big RPG's to get used to large install sizes. Although, I haven't heard anything about Sony limiting how much space developers can leave to installation.

Gran Turismo 5 is nearly 9GB.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is nearly 8GB
    Rage is 8GB
    inFamous 2 [Download] is a 15GB download.

I'm thinking the limit, for actual install data, however, is around 10GB.

@HYSTΣR!A⋆➒➑ - That's only for the optional, full install. It's not mandatory to do it like the 8GB install is. It's the same for both systems.

Yeh and the load times were still horribly slow!

I had a 40 or 60GB fat PS3 (forgotten which one) but I upgraded it about a year ago to a 640GB after seeing the way gaming is going with installs, DLC and downloadable games.

I think the real point of this is if you wanted to worry about HDD space and installing games, you would be playing on PC.

Personally though, I don't really care either way.
