5 Hilarious Ways Game Designers Are Messing With Pirates | Cracked.com

"If, years down the track, you wonder why there are no games like these anymore, and all you get to play is pay-to-play and social games designed to suck money out of your pockets, then the reason will stare back at you in the mirror."

    Just saying. Have a laugh.
Gauss's Piracy Uncertainty Principle: When you pirate a game, that act inherently changes the results of what is to come after your pirating. You can't make any statement with any certainty regarding what would have happened had you not pirated the game.

    Gauss's Rating Rationale:
0-1: A game whose very existence is abhorrent to all things creative and intelligent.
2-4: A just plain bad game.
5-6: A game that has alot of mistakes, but is atleast playable and has some enjoyable sections. Good for a rent.
7: An average game, should be played at some point
8: A good game, should buy at some point
    9: A great game, day-one purchase
10: A game that goes above and beyond the generation, its transcendent.

I had heard of a few of them, but not the Spyro one! That was pretty amusing, nice thread Gauss!

Bohemia did something similar with a lot of their games called DEGRADE where for example weapons jam and have lower accuracy on Arma II.

You could barely last 30 seconds with the Four Kings.

Or genius method of exposing thieving pirates.

It only affects those who haven't bought the game and doesn't impede their ability to demo the game, which seems to be your defense here. Brilliant stuff.

Hard to argue with the logic of the quote though, because you are starting to see that trend.

I'd also point out what ant1 said, and that is that if you're pirating honestly (i.e. want to demo the game before you throw down your money), many of these have little to no influence on your ability to get a feel for how the game plays and demo it.

Honestly if you're pirating a game and play the game more than an hour or two, you should be buying the game because it means you like the game enough to commit to purchase. If its a bad game, you don't play it that long.

Its always been difficult to quantify the impact of pirating (both positive and negative), but the truth is many, many, many, many pirates are thieves, and its hard for me to come to their defense, much in the same way its hard for me to defend shit like the Xbox One does because your hurting honest customers.

Its a two-way street, and the pirate isn't implicitly in the right, and the corporation isn't implicitly in the wrong.

Wonder if they will have this for the ps4? The only time I pirated a game was back in ps1 when I wanted to play dragon ball GT and dragon ball z ultimate 22. Otherwise I support the developers with my favorite games

Funny. Although some will figure out a workaround.

The point is to stall crackers long enough with multiple anti-piracy checks to maximise legitimate sales within the peak first four week period.
