Saints Row IV "Refused Classification" in Australia

    This is insane

Even WITH the new R18+ rating that we got last year, it seems that SR4 isn't even acceptable for adult Aussies to play. While it says Refused Classification, the game isn't banned, meaning you are allowed to purchase it overseas (unoffically) but not 'display it openly'.

What do you think of this? As an Aussie I couldn't care less about SR4, but it's weird to see that adults, including myself (I recently turned 18) aren't even allowed to purchase games such as these. Weird.

very peculiar indeed. i'd had assumed like most if not everyone that once the R18 rating had been established, any game had a very high chance of passing the Australian classification board its evident that it has prevailed as a advantage with the release of mortal Kombat but this incident in particular is odd. in most respects, luckily it wasn't a universally anticipated game like the last of us

TLoU did get an R rating, though.

SRIV must have had some serious dildo sword action to have been refused classification, lol

the fucking rating system is fucked in Australia, every game that has violence has to be R18+, most 2013 games are R, that doesn't bother me that much; but then they pull this shit? Urgh. I already pre-ordered mine from ozgameshop, so i can't wait for it to come and play the uncut version

Yeah, I don't understand how Metro earned itself an R rating here. I couldn't be bothered to wait a few weeks, but somehow they didn't check my ID and I was allowed to buy it.

I am sorry for all you Aussies out there that will miss out on SR4 because of a stupid ratings system like this. I mean, once you're 18, you should be able to do whatever the fuck you want. That being said, i am not doubly excited for this game because it promises to be even more over the top than SR3 and that's what I like best about the game.

Wow, Australia needs to get its classification system fixed.

Everybody who wants it out there now will just import/pirate it so doesn't even make sense to block it.

Exactly, the government just misses out on what 7-8 dollars in tax for each copy sold since peopel will buy it from the UK or US or something.

Is it Possible for you guys to make a US or EU account so that you can get some of the games that get banned there? Or do they actually have that blocked as well?

Be glad you aren't in America. You can't burp on the phone while talking to your grandmother without the government listening in.

Look on the brighter side you Aussies! The woman who brought in R18+ Rating just got ousted from your government and your back to good ol' Rudd!

Yes we can, as long as its available in digital format. We can also import all games from the UK at half our retail price...why anyone pays retail in this country is beyond me.

This decision came down to the portrayal of illicit drug use and sexual violence. Society condemns both and by granting the game R18+, it could be perceived that the government condones it.

On that basis, this is a fair call...not that I think gamers are going to go out and commit these crimes based on a video game, but zero tolerance means zero tolerance. On the other hand, murder sims are getting R18+ classification, so it's a confusing double-standard.

If any Aussies want this game, buy it from Zavvi.com, Shopto.net or Game.co.uk and run the customs gauntlet. I've had no problems importing RC games in the past.
