Back up your saves NOW!! That's what my original PS3 started doing... I ignored it, lost 3 years worth of save files for over 250 games ,

Simple fix. Just use the Livechat function found here https://support.us.playstation.com/app/contact_options/ to get with a tech support guy. They can walk you through fixing it. Hopefully without needing to format your whole HD. I had this issue recently and it took about 2-3 steps and maybe 20 minutes to correct. Worst luck is your HDMI port crapped out. But it's likely it just has a segment of corrupt data and needs a simple correction.

It doesn't sound like it has anything to do with software (the OS / contents of HDD), but the hardware is failing. I had a HDMI port die and there's nothing you can do but have it repaired.

Shit happens - either pay to get the ports fix, buy a component cable or replace the PS3.
