Have you been looked down upon because of trophies?

Have you ever had a bad experience with someone who wasn't trophy hunting, did not get the concept or thought it was waste of time?

Often when I talk about trophies hunting to players who are not hunting themselves, I get weird looks, as if the general opinion is that if you are hunting trophies, you are wasting your life.

Have anyone else had similar encounters?

Nope, I think I don't have enough trophies for that.

My non trophy hunting friends who have 0 or maybe 1 or 2 plats are more like: wow, you have 8 plats! Like it's a lot to have.

Sure, my friends poke fun at it, but we all have our reasons and drives to do the things we want to do. They like spending their money on PCs and heavy drinking. I like spending my money on my PlayStation stuff and getting plats in games I enjoy. I find it best to not pay them any attention on the fact because it's what you like to do!

i asked my friend a couple times when he would be getting his 1st platinum and what game it'd be, i even offered to help him out with whatever it was. he has 1300-ish trophies and no platinums still, and he hates it when i bring up trophy hunting.

but then again i met a guy while playing Dead Island online and he wasn't a trophy hunter (though he did have 5 platinums). its been about 11 months since i met him and now he is such a huge trophy hunter. he has 9 platinums now and is working on 3 more.

    each person is different

I don't talk with random people about trophy hunting. It's something very specific to the Playstation scene, and I realize not everyone does it. If they're not on a trophy hunting website, or specifically telling me that they hunt trophies, I normally don't bring it up. It isn't exactly the most exciting thing to do, especially when you have to play through a game multiple times to earn a platinum. Most people beat a game once and they're done with it. I would expect them to look at me funny if I told them I played a game 3-4 times in a row in order to unlock little digital images. It even sounds silly.

    But I still do it.

I agree. In here trophy hunters has a safe heaven where hunting is okay, and it is why we all are here. But to me it looks like most people are repellent to actually talk about it in public. Hunting becomes some sort of guilty pleasure. It is like talking to someone who doesn't play video games at all, trying to convince them that it is as good an entertainment form as watching a movie. But I guess that some people just still see video games as child's play and "nerds" entertainment, nothing that "adults" would be wasting their spare time on and especially not trophy hunting as it seems that only the most hardcore, sorry to say, "nerds" are doing. (These are not me words btw I love hunting )

Sadly, I know only a handful of people who actually are gamers. Most are just people who have the usual Fifa or Call of Duty games. None of them actually care about trophies though. Some people I've socialised with feel that I waste too much time just by gaming, no one even gets the concept of earning trophies.

No, but I've looked down on people for achievement hunting. Trophies are way better.

Getting Burnout Paradise plat, some years ago, I was boosting all the trophies with a friend, and he suddenly ragged and quitted because it was too much time consuming, I understand that opinion, because I can't stand Burnout Paradise anymore after getting the plat, I won't even bother getting the plat with this account :c

Nope, but if i did it wouldn't matter, every person plays games for different reasons i started playing for trophies 2 years ago and if i had more time i'd have ALOT more trophies. so forget what people say or think and just do what you do.

None of my real life friends have a problem with it, as most of them are achievement hunters on the xbox scene. As for my PSN friends, (that I met online, many from when I used to play Metal Gear Online) they don't understand the concept of trophy hunting, and think it's a waste of time. The refute I often use for that is that it guarantees me more time on all the games because I have to take the extra time to get the trophies. They still don't seem to understand though, and just juggle a half dozen different games that they never finish and waste money on more every week or so.

No, but I don't really have gaming friends that would care either way. My wife knows when I'm hunting for a certain trophy though. She just thinks it's super nerdy and cute.

    IKR?

Most of my friends I have would always send me messages like "OMG you have so many plats" or "you have the most plats out of all of us , and I get an overinflated ego until I realize compared to people on this and on my friends list (which I'm about 9plats behind the ps3t friend member with 21 plats) and other trophy sites, I see I'm just a n00b

Wouldn't expect someone named "SkyMirror" to ever be looked down upon.

Yes, my wife does that -__- ... She plays sometimes and has gotten to 100 trophies herself, but she always wants to compare that to my total and keeps asking why I do it.
