So does pretty much every other industry in the entire world. You think there isn't this crap going on in the shipping industry all the time, or perhaps the publishing industry, or the commercial dining industry? It's nothing new. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of companies that get in trouble with overtime laws on a regular basis.

This is just another guy, who no longer is an employee of his company - and likes to talk crap about them. It's been going on since mankind has had jobs. One guy speaking about how his old employer isn't going to make EA terrible, or convince anybody who doesn't already believe they are terrible, that they are so.

It was a sad read, but there are a lot of major industries like this.

I don't know what the bigger tragedy is. EA in general or the fact that you visit Reddit.

So EA doesn't give a shit about about it customers. Thats new. The sad part about the thread is the mentioning about how they killed a guy from having his power turned off.

Sorry to say that I did as well.

Anyway, there are plenty of companies with ex-employees or problems such as these. Did it really take anyone this long to figure it out?

I'm not inclined to base my judgement of a EA purely on the words of one disgruntled employee. However, as a gamer who has purchased EA games in the past, i would tend to agree that they are a fairly lame gaming company. Unfortunately, they seem focused on mass-producing games with the same basic structure and gameplay as opposed to creating new and independent games. Or even focusing on potential franchises that could become huge (Mirror's Edge i'm looking at you).

But then again, when you have so much pressure riding on you, i suppose there's no margin for error in creating a game.

Thing is - EA is a publisher, not a game developer. Their bottom line is to make money, and make as much as they can, as quickly as they can.

EA =/= DICE, Black Box, Bioware, Tiburon, Pandemic, etc. In another sense: EA is General Motors, DICE, etc. are Chevrolet/Ford/GMC, etc.

However, you also just said that about the company who allowed games like Mirror's Edge [Which has a sequel in the works] and Brutal Legend [Which got shot down by Activision because it wasn't "able to be franchised"] to get published. If it wasn't for EA, game like that probably wouldn't have seen the light of day.

Could EA be a better company? - of course. But they are also one of the few companies now who is actually trying to help smaller devs do something [EA Partners is to thank for games like DeathSpank - Hothead might not have been able to do it without them.].
