    Installing and Updating

I was wondering how I can uninstall a game from my PS3 harddrive. I want to still be able to play it eventually, so if I uninstall it will I lose my data? That would be a major problem. Also, if I reinstall it, will it automatically update the updates that I may have placed on the game already?

Thanks to Thunder for the platbar!!!

There's 2 different versions of data on the PS3: Game save data, and HDD data. If you delete the HDD data, you'll still have your game save, thus your progress is safe. Now, if you delete the game save data, then your screwed . And, yes, it will automatically reinstall the update once you reinstall it on the HDD.

If you delete the game data you wont lose your progress, you will just have to reinstall it and download and updates and stuff again. Make a backup of your save data anyway.

Just to keep the conversation going, how does deleting your game save data comport with the new online game save storage system? If I delete my game save, does PSN retain it if I want it back?

No. You must have PSN+ and you must save your data onto it. It doesn't automatically save there unless you select that you want it to. But even then, if you delete it off your cloud storage and your ps3, you are screwed lol.

That's kind of what I was getting at. I have PSN+ and I opted into the online save game storage, so what you're saying is that if I delete it locally only off my ps3, I can still get it back? Hypothetically...

If it's in your cloud storage then yes. And what Ferret said. If your PS+ expires, you are sol.

As long as you synch your trophies then you can not lose them ever......
Just delete the Game data in the Game Data Utility folder and you will be fine.
