Ricockulous doesn't do it justice, i agree with Gauss, it all ends up in the same gravesite because no one has the correct level of intelligence, power and rational thought to strip the issues down to bare bones, a hard job made impossible with too many people sticking their oar in.

Other than that, i fully admit i understand very little in Politics, but you don't have to know much to see the problem here.

This is only a waste of time. What kind of bullshit is this, trying to censor the Internet? I highly doubt this will go through.

because if this law passes this forum can singlehandely be taken down in a single swoop thanks to US law.

it doesn't matter where the hell the server is hosted.

Well, I don't think the push for this is coming from the average copyright holder. This push is coming from the big-boys like the RIAA.

Even they aren't fans of this law though, the ESA (video-game industry's version of the RIAA) has come out and spoken out against this law.

FYI: Sony, MSoft, Nintendo, and EA are all on the ESA.

Problem is here is what the conversation goes:

RIAA lobbyist: "My constituent is having major issues with the rampant piracy issues, we need to amend current laws to be more applicable to the manner in which current piracy is happening over the internet."

Congressman: "DER AHH DERP, OK! ME WILL RIGHT LAW, ME FIX! YOU NO WORRY!"

    RIAA lobbyist: "Ok..."

Congressman: "I GONNA GET PEN! I GOTS A HEADACHE WITH PICTURES! ME WILL MAKE LAW THAT SAYS EVERYTHING THAT MAKES YOUR STUFF ON INTERWEBS THAT NOT HAVE YOUR PERMISSHUN BE NOT LEGAL! JAIL FER DEM!"

    *RIAA lobbyist walks away slowly*

Well, thats not actually true. It completely matters where the server is hosted.

Statements like this are the reason so many people have such a small understanding of the law, why the last time the senate was in session and tried to pass the original version of the law people were spouting off "THIS WILL ELIMINATE PEOPLE'S CAPABILITY OF POSTING REVIEWS ON YOUTUBE!" or "THIS LAW WILL REMOVE ALL THE INTERNET FROM THE US!"

    1) I'm not sure if this law passes this entire site will have to come down, as a matter of fact I think only very small portions of this site even violate this law. Even then I doubt the entire site will come down, likely the youtube videos posted will just be removed.

    2) The law, much like current copyright law, still requires the person who owns the IP to bring a suit against the violator. All this law is doing is creating an avenue for pretty strict punishment against disproportionately innocent things.

    Gauss's Rating Rationale:
0-1: A game whose very existence is abhorrent to all things creative and intelligent.
2-4: A just plain bad game.
5-6: A game that has alot of mistakes, but is atleast playable and has some enjoyable sections. Good for a rent.
7: An average game, should be played at some point
8: A good game, should buy at some point
    9: A great game, day-one purchase
10: A game that goes above and beyond the generation, its transcendent.

The US Government and the State Governments can have as much power as you, the citizen, are willing to give them.

We, the US Citizen, is the check on our Government... The Government doesn't police itself (well) and will grow and inflate its power until you say stop by making a stink about stuff like this.

Its bills like this that convince me things like Government run healthcare and asking the Government to fix the economy and parent us are horrific things (stuff like this is just status quo in Communism/Socialism/Fascism, which are all covered by the word Socialism).

No offense intended either, but statements like this also give me much deeper understanding as to why every President since Nixon has been able to attain more power than the previous President.
