Help with the God of War 2-packs

I was in Target, and saw that there are 2 God of War 2-packs - one has games 1 & 2, the other has GoW Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. Could someone explain how these second 2 are related to the series?

    The order of the series is;

    Chains of Olympus
    God of War
    Ghost of Sparta
    God of War II
    God of War III

Well I played them in this order; 1, 2, 3, Chains of Olympus and then Ghost of Sparta. Seemed find to me, playing the origins game just seemed to fill in a few blanks.

Although if I had all the games available at once I would play them in story order, just seems like it would be cooler that way

I have only played 1 and currently 2, in GoW 2 there is a scene where Kratos and a Titan are talking about a past event which I wonder if the Origins collection will answer. I would rather play in order of story, but I don't feel cheated. I will probably play 3 next then Origins collection. Kinda like a Quentin Tarantino movie, lol.

In all honesty, I think that if you played 1,2,&3 then you should play the Origins Collection. It fills in a lot a gaps from what happens before GOW1, what happened after GOW1, leading up to GOW2.

FYI they're made by different companies, to basically they're filling in holes that you didn't even know were there.

Saying to play the prequel first is like telling people to watch Star Wars episodes 1, 2 and 3 first...

Chains of Olympus is first, followed by God of War, then Ghost of Sparta, God of War II, then God of War III. They're all great games, and even if you play the real trilogy before the origins, you wouldn't be lost.

ah, there's a conundrum. Do you have them watch Episodes 4,5,6 first, then leave them with the bad taste in their mouths of 1,2,3...or do you have them watch 1,2,3 first, and possibly alienate them from ever wanting to continue, thus keeping them from seeing what made the series good in the first place?

Make sure to pick them up, they are all good games.
You can either play them in the way they were released, or in order, storywise.

    Released:
    God of War.
    God of War II.
God of War Chains of Olympus.
    God of War III.
God of War Ghost of Sparta.

    Storywise:
God of War Chains of Olympus
    God of War
God of War Ghost of Sparta
    God of War II
    God of War III.
    Currently Playing:|Mass Effect 2/Insanity Run|

    You watch Episodes 4, 5, & 6 and don't even bother with Episodes 1, 2, & 3.

As far as the God of War series goes you should play GOW I & II first to see if you like the series and if you do then play GOW III and Origins Collection later in any order you want as long as you're aware of where they fall chronologically.

Olympus is before the first game, showing everything that happened beforehand. Ghost of Sparta explains Kratos' childhood and how he became the ghost of sparta.

Amazing series but toxicity got it right in both timelines, but dont think God of war 1, Ghost, or chains is bad just because they were released awhile ago/on a portable there still amazing. but Chains is short

For those who fight for it, life has a flavour the sheltered will never know.
