I have never heard of this show. I might have to check it out.

Good luck to Asuka. Hope you win. That job as a Production Associate sounds awesome.

Because for whatever reason, every phonetic sound in Japanese ends with a vowel sound, except for ん/ン, which is simply "n" as you would say it at the end of the word "run". But I've noticed that when す/ス "su" is used in the middle of a word, such as アスカ "Asuka", the "u" is treated almost as if it is silent. However, us crazy westerners have this horrible habit of placing emphasis on the syllable with the least emphasis in the original language. And it's so prevalent that when you know it's wrong, it can really get on your nerves. If that's really how the panel is going to say her name the whole time she's on the show, this is gonna be really annoying.
    1) I understand why, but the spelling "Asuka" is still the anglicized version. If we are spelling it as it sounds (which was the original point), why not spell it Ahska? Its not like the spelling Asuka means anything to the Japanese language.

You can't fault English-speaking people for doing that, nothing personal but the intention of that is to spell it as it is pronounced.

So people can say "well its pronounced ah-ska," but they are technically making a mistake spelling it Asuka.

The only reason stuff like that is accepted actually is because English is one of the few languages that allows for silent letters (k in knife) and situational pronunciation (i.e. ph = f), so most people who speak English will accept a word not being pronounced like its spelled.

    2) Its not really that prevalent, it just sticks out in your mind when you know the root of the language. You just have to have a sense of humor about it, like when Japanese people struggle with 'l' sounds, French can't seem to say 'h' sounds, or Spanish over emphasize 'r's. English people are just naturally going to try to adapt pronunciation to our rules.

The reality is every language has its quirks because language developed in microcosms. We need to be more understanding of that because no language is truly exempt from complexity. Sure English has its quirks... Hate to break it to ya though, Japanese isn't free of it.

Particularly as language starts to blend, localization of pronunciation is going to happen. You can't tell me its not weird hearing someone who is speaking English all of a sudden whip out the Italian pronunciation of "Mozzarella"
Gauss's Piracy Uncertainty Principle: When you pirate a game, that act inherently changes the results of what is to come after your pirating. You can't make any statement with any certainty regarding what would have happened had you not pirated the game.

    Gauss's Rating Rationale:
0-1: A game whose very existence is abhorrent to all things creative and intelligent.
2-4: A just plain bad game.
5-6: A game that has alot of mistakes, but is atleast playable and has some enjoyable sections. Good for a rent.
7: An average game, should be played at some point
8: A good game, should buy at some point
    9: A great game, day-one purchase
10: A game that goes above and beyond the generation, its transcendent.

For Asuka, Sorry for the um well added word in what I thought your msg was. It had been like a year or longer since I was here, so I was kind of close.. Maybe one day when you get famous, like after you win you could throw it out there. This dumbass half yankee half redneck named Wargazsem, Had my msg as "under the desk of unred" Get me my 15 minutes of fame. Once again I will be watching, give's you something to get into and root for. When you know someone, well sort of know someone. Ok I'm running on like 2 hour's sleep and rambling off at the mouth. Good luck.....

David Jaffe would be a guy I'd like to drink a beer or two with, he seems like he could be a hell of a guy to throw down with.
