Valve Fans Launch Operation Crowbar | Inside Gaming Daily Blog

In a move that seems to say “we love you so much we hate you,” Valve fans launched Operation Crowbar this morning. Technically the A in “Operation” is a lambda symbol, but I can’t be assed to open the character map. You know how it is.

The operation involves buying a $7 crowbar from Amazon and shipping it to Valve’s offices, the address of which is handily listed in the original Steam forum post.

Those that can’t spare $7 have taken to flooding Valve’s Facebook page with pictures of crowbars. And, while I can’t verify this, I imagine poor Mr. Newell’s inbox is slammed with .jpgs of crowbars right now.

If I were Valve, such a huge display would make me feel awesome, shortly before I try to figure out what to do with all those damn crowbars. It’s amazing that a game series has created such a dedicated following. As far as the spirit of the gesture, I can’t put my finger on whether it’s good-natured, malicious, or a mixture of both. As near as I can tell, fans of the series feel like they’re owed some news on the future of the series, though I wonder if any news other than “Hey it’s coming out next week” would make the situation any better.

Here’s the intent as stated by the original post:

We shall not stop until Valve is up to their nipples in crowbars…or when the cease and desist orders come.

Valves been keeping secrets and it is time to pry it from them.
(Crowbar pun, we are not trying to force Valve’s hand just show unrest)
Regardless of motivation, it’s a cool idea, and a testament to the passion of gamers to organize such an event. At least it’s not that other Operation Crowbar.

If you want to help, Either do the facebook easy way and post pictures of crowbar related things or

    go to amazon

    TEKTON 3324 18-Inch Wrecking Bar:Amazon:Home Improvement

buy as many as you please

then resend it to valve at:

    Valve Software

PO BOX 1688 Bellevue, WA 98009

If you want to send crowbar stuff through email

Gabe Newell's Email Address [email protected] (don't worry he says this email all the time in the game commentary)

They listen to fans so this won't be in vain.

Operltion? How do you pronounce that? Oh-purl-shun?

Seriously though, done and done. If you care about quality games... This must be done!

Even if just to remind Valve that people, you know, care about this series. With Newell's track-record in matters like this, we likely won't get anything faster, but maybe we will get some cool fan-related stuff because of it.
Gauss's Piracy Uncertainty Principle: When you pirate a game, that act inherently changes the results of what is to come after your pirating. You can't make any statement with any certainty regarding what would have happened had you not pirated the game.

    Gauss's Rating Rationale:
0-1: A game whose very existence is abhorrent to all things creative and intelligent.
2-4: A just plain bad game.
5-6: A game that has alot of mistakes, but is atleast playable and has some enjoyable sections. Good for a rent.
7: An average game, should be played at some point
8: A good game, should buy at some point
    9: A great game, day-one purchase
10: A game that goes above and beyond the generation, its transcendent.

You guys imagine the amount of pressure is on Valve for a Half Life game? Give them a fucking break.

If valve doesn't want to, then so be it.

well so it be! SENDING CROWBARS HAS NEVER BEEN SO FUN lol
I still play Black Ops because me and brother have 2 PS3's and share a copy of Modern Warfare 3. So that is why I play it sometimes. Thats the *ONLY* time I play Black Ops! When brother is not playing MW3, I am!

I geuss half life fans never new that valve cannot count to 3, or even know the existence of the #3. Therefore halflife is over unless they do a halflife 2 episode 2 part 2

I hope they get pissed off by this and make it so all you can use in 3 is a crowbar.
