I have roughly 200GB free on it. I don't see myself filling it up anytime soon.

BTW, 7200RPM absolutely makes a huge difference, as well as the solid state memory if you play hard drive intensive games
I had never thought to put an SSD in the PS3. I guess they do make them for laptops now, so it would fit... but, but... I don't think it would be cost-effective to get one large enough for my needs. Maybe in the PS4.

I had the old 80 gig fat, it didn't actually crap out on me but the fan was starting to kick up a serious racket after about 15 minutes of play so I went out and bought my current 320 gig slim. It's only got about 60 gigs left free too, and I have no music or movies on it. Just pure gamage.

Well these are hybrid drives, so it's a bit different. I spent $100 USD on my 500GB one. It's 500GB of normal hard disk storage + 4GB of solid state memory. The controller in it on its own actively monitors the data you consistently access and loads it into the solid state memory. So, theoretically, if you are like me and play a lot of PSN games, they'll load into that memory. Games with hard drive installs will load into it as well.

Some games that are HDD intensive (like GT5) benefit immensely from this.

I don't regret my purchase. Load times and installs are significantly faster than on my friend's stock 60GB PS3, especially after they are loaded more than once for the controller to "learn" my usage.

Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid Hard Drive | Seagate

At the time of writing this post, SSDs are NOT worth it to throw into your PS3 due to the lack of space vs. cost. However, I'd say these hybrid drives are well worth it.

This is a video a guy posted over on youtube:

Mine is still the 120gb slim. Once I have the funds, I'll purchase a bigger hard drive such as a 320gb.
