Nvidia Allows the PS4 To use Physx and APEX tech

PS4 gains support from Nvidia with PhysX and APEX technology - National Console Gaming | Examiner.com

Nvidia announced Thursday that the PhysX and APEX technologies that it has created to help game designers build more realistic worlds will be available with the PS4.

"Great physics technology is essential for delivering a better gaming experience and multiplatform support is critical for developers," said Mike Skolones, product manager for PhysX at NVIDIA. "With PhysX and APEX support for PlayStation 4, customers can look forward to better games."

PhysX is a middleware physics engine solution for game designers and is already used in many PS3, Xbox 360, PC and even the Wii. Game engines like the Unreal Engine already make use of it. The physics engine allows for both rigid and soft body dynamics, ragdolls, vehicle dynamics plus allows cloth and fluids to interact more realistically with the environment. Meanwhile, APEX expands on PhysX's capabilities by letting artists add destructible objects, particle, fluids and life-life clothing to games.

In short, this means gamers should expect lots of debris and various particles to liven up game environments.

While the PS4 is powered by an AMD processor and graphics chip, Nvidia says that the PhysX and APEX software development kits will support the PS4 along with the other CPU architectures currently available.

Read about it yesterday, this is old news

Anyway, this should provide a bit more realism in the PlayStation 4 games (and Virtual World if there is a new one?). There is already a fair amount of this in the upcoming game "The Last of Us".
