Twitch To Start Heavily Moderating The PS4's "Playroom" App

Twitch Taking a Harder Look at PS4's Playroom After Livestream Mayhem

For millions of people around the world, the PS4 presents the opportunity to broadcast activity shown on your neighborhood home display whether it be via monitor, TV or projector screen - all with the press of a single button, "Share". One interesting addition is the new Playroom app, which requires the purchasable PlayStation Camera for full effect. The camera captures a large space of whatever the lens are facing towards, and with the Playroom you can let your imaginations run astray...literally.

Although the PS4's built-in video-capture card allows unlimited recording and broadcasting time on top of allowing relatively high-quality screenshots to be taken and shared, typical services like YouTube and Twitch only allow a limit of 15mins for a standard account - essentially 15 minutes of undisputed fame per video for the average user.

According to Twitch, people have been using the Playroom for more than just a way to muck around with crazy dancing and sports-playing robots - with the PS Camera people have been using the Playroom as a way to broadcast to the world their sexual pleasures on top of other stuff. In one report, a man was drinking with his wife and he stripped his wife naked soon after his wife fell into a drunken stupor (with the PS4 recording and broadcasting every single moment).

Twitch has cracked down on these users, permabanning their accounts and releasing a statement that they would be heavily moderating the PS4's Playroom and that their service is to only be used for gaming-related videos. There have been no repercussions for Sony as of yet, though it was foolish of them to overlook behaviour like this when they added video-capture tech into the PS4.

    Ok.

PS: Is the twitch-streaming thing even a big deal? Do people view random content like that a lot?

I seriously doubt (and would be surprised if) there are any repercussions for Sony. Let's be frank, you could stream before the PS4 was out. People dot his type of shit all the time on things like Chatroulette, so it's not like Sony introduced some brand new technology that didn't exist before. In the end, it's the idiots that do it whom are at fault. That sort of goes back to the whole "Guns don't kill people; people kill people." People were killing each other way before guns.

And now it's easier, as is Playstation Porn!
But yeah, I don't see Sony taking much action. It was kinda obvious that this stuff was gonna happen.

Obvious indeed. Stuff like this is unavoidable. If I had a quid for every cock I saw waved about on UNO on the 360....

Ironically enough, I'd would guess that there were more war casualties prior to the invention of guns than after.

A huge amount of people actually watch Twitch. I've seen lots of League of Legends, Pokemon and Battlefield on there.

I know, but.. is the regular audience interested in all the amateur streamers that the PS4/XB1 will be providing?

I am actually. No idea what people are using these days.

Anyway, I wasn't talking about regular twitch users/viewers, but more about whether or not this new console-streaming thing is gonna make a big splash.

I just started using it the other day. I must say it's a great way to get an impression of a game you may be interested in purchasing.

I've been on Twitch (including Justin.tv) for years. Its amazing, I discovered so many awesome casters (aka streamers) and so many good games. Honestly Twitch is the future, but now. I can't wait till Youtube "stabilizes" and live streaming works. Actually, live streaming works great on Youtube, but the chat layout sucks.
