Well, gives one another reason to buy a PS4/Xbox One. Now we just need to know what the hell the game will be.

It's not a single game. It's the exact same thing they tried to do with Final Fantasy 13 - a series of games, all set within the same universe that tell one big story through separate, smaller stories across different devices.

IE: Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, Agito XIII [Renamed "Type-0"], Agito, and Versus XIII [Now Final Fantasy XV] - all part of "Fabula Nova Crystallis".

Deus Ex: Universe is the same idea - it's an umbrella name for the next entries in the franchise.

This, the quicker the better it is for the games.

This. Human Revolution's level designs felt small and cramped. Maybe it's because someone left so many fucking cardboard boxes lying around. Or maybe it's because the last-gen didn't have enough memory on deck to allow for more interesting background scenery. Or maybe we'll just get bigger and better cardboard boxes next time around. More boxes. Yeah.

Cardboard Box Simulator. The most realistic cardboard boxes in gaming history. GoTY 2014.

Technically, it was just supposed to be XIII, Agito XIII and Versus XIII, two on PS3 and one on the PSP for those with handhelds. Because XIII was received with such mixed reviews, and the bad reviews were REALLY BAD, they basically dissolved the universe and, like you said Agito XIII became Type-0 to distance itself. And as we've more recently discovered, Versus XIII is now XV.
I'm pretty sure the only reason we've gotten two more XIII games is because they already had all the assets made and the engine done, and they were still waiting on Nomura to get Versus out to make more money. So, may as well release "expansions" to XIII for those who liked it. Hence, the reason it is the first FF game to get two direct sequels.

If DE:U is trying to do the same thing, that's fine by me. If they've got separate teams working on the different games, and they've all got different tweaks to the formula like what FF had planned, it means we could get several interesting ideas within a short span, rather than waiting 2-3 years for just another iteration of the same thing. Variety is the spice of life, and this would be a welcome change to the oversaturation of "the same exact thing" like with CoD and AC.

Actually, Agito XIII was supposed to be for cell phones originally, but Square was having issues in making the game work on cell phones, and in 2008 changed the platform to PSP.

This will become far more frequent now the initial launch lineups are out of the way, the exception being indie titles. It's a good thing of course, the only way the PS4 and XB can go forward is to ensure more games are designed specifically for those consoles.

Certainly, new Deus Ex is a great reason to invest in new tech personally speaking. Human Revolution is easily one of my favourite games on PS3.

Oh wow, lol, did not know it was originally for cell phones. That's insane. I know they've got Chaos Rings, KH: Coded and FF4 The After Years that were all cell phone games, but did not know Agito was originally one as well. Crazy...

And as Larrydavid said, we're going to start seeing this becoming the norm going forward from 2014. We'll still get some PS3 games, especially a lot of Japanese games that finally seem to be making their way over, but with the sales numbers for both next-gen console launches being so high so early, we're going to see a big push to get main development onto the new consoles and the consumers will follow suit if they want to keep playing. Can't happen soon enough, imo. The last gen already had its final hurrah, we should let it fade out in style.
