The DualShock 4 Can Now Be Used Wirelessly On PS3

The PS4′s controller has been compatible with the PS3 since launch, though only if it was connected through a USB wire. However it now appears one of the recent updates allows for you to connect the controller and use it wirelessly. The step by step guide is as follows.

    1. Connect DS4 with wire to PS3 then turn on.
    2. Go to Accessory settings.
    3. Select Manage Bluetooth Devices, and start scanning for device.
    4. Unplug DS4
    5. While scanning hold the PS & Share buttons on the DS4.
    6. When the light flashes quickly on DS4 plug back in and select Wireless Controller.
    7. Let registration complete and then unplug.

This isn’t full recognition and as a result things like the PS button, as well as the vibrate and Sixaxis functions won’t work. But at least there is some support now.

I have two 10 foot USB cords (one micro for the PS4, one mini for the PS3), and constantly game plugged in. I find the inconvenience of a dying controller and remembering to charge the controller is greater than the inconvenience of a cord. I never trip over the thing either, yet that's just me.

I just hope they eventually get the PS button working. It's pretty integral to the PS3.

I'm similar but I just have the little 15cm cable lol.

Nonetheless my setup allows me to keep it plugged in no matter what. And I never trip.

Is the PS4 controller worth getting even if you only have a PS3 right now (I preordered the Destiny bundle)?

Generally, I'd say yes. I never had comfort issues with the Dualshock 3, yet even I can tell the Dualshock 4 is more comfortable, especially for extended gaming sessions. Just keep in mind you're going to need to keep your DS3 handy if you want to power on/off the system remotely, or even access the XMB.

It's also never a bad idea to have a second controller for your PS4, considering the shorter battery life, which if you're gaming wirelessly, you can cycle them so you always have one charged.
