Nintendo announces Pokémon X and Y for the 3DS, coming October*2013 | Polygon

Nintendo will release a brand new Pokémon game series for the 3DS called Pokémon X and Pokémon Y in October 2013, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced in a Nintendo Direct presentation today.

The game will make use of the Nintendo's 3DS's features and will release in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan "around the same time," Iwata said.

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will feature three starter Pokémon: Froakie, Fennekin and Chespin. Pikachu appeared briefly in the trailer for the games among the new Pokémon introduced.

The games will allow players to play with each other and connect globally. Iwata emphasized that this will be the first Pokémon series that will receive a similar release period worldwide so that players can connect with each other.

Would make sense for a Z soon as well..

Just saw the trailer. I was hoping for a new entry on the Wii U to be announced. I don't think this is enough to get me to buy a 3DS and still nothing for a Wii U. I'll stick with my vanilla White.

Still have hope for a RSE remake, but this looks interesting. Being a Pokemon fan since I was 3, I can never not get a Pokemon main entry. And I'm glad there is no asinine wait like usualt for it to be localized. They are getting lazy though with game names and Pokemon designs. I don't expect anything as great as the first generation, but the recent Pokemon have been lackluster.

These starter pokemon are starting to get worse and worse after Gen 3. So it's not the 4 regions in 1 game then? I was hoping it'd be that game on the small chance it might revive my interest in the pokemon games. So no thanks I won't be running out to get a 3DS for this game, come on Ace Attorney 5.

This is cool with me. However I don't really like how the short amount of exploration looked in the trailer, but I'll definitely have to see more to make a verdict on that. Anyways love how the battle animations and such looked and I really, REALLY want a Froakie, don't really see where all the hate's coming from Froakie is the bomb.

The 3D world might be the biggest innovation the series has seen since it's conception . I'll probably give it a try (and choose the Y version since I'm a man), and dread having to choose any of those three starters (especially the fugly frog).

Pretty excited for this, though the starters are meh... the Water-type is the worst of them all. It's so friggin' ugly; I can only hope it evolves into something half decent.
