What did Activision expect with the WII U version? They've released 5 COD games on the WII. How well did they sell?
RUMOR: Activision Upset at Black Ops II Wii U Sales, Says Nintendo Fans Are All Talk | GenGAMEGiven that the Wii U has a relatively small install base, no one expected Call of Duty: Black Ops II to sell like hotcakes on the system, but according to indie developer Calvin Hall the sales numbers are much lower than what Activision expected. Hall claims to have met with “an employee for a studio that makes games for Activision” who revealed that Activision is extremely unhappy with the sales of the Wii U port, going as far as to call out Nintendo fans for their hypocrisy.
The unnamed Activision employee painted a pretty bleak picture of the company’s opinion of Nintendo fans.Activision didn’t expect much from Wii U sales of Black Ops 2, but they sure didn’t expect it to be that abysmal. Activision gave Wii U owners the best version of Blops 2 with Off TV features, and Nintendo fans didn’t support it. It’s easy for Nintendo fans to trash publishers for not giving them ports, but publishers have wisened up. They realize Nintendo fans are all talk. Nintendo fans are vocal with their mouths, but when it’s time to open their wallets, they’ll spend that $60 on New Super Mario Bros instead.Hall’s source went on to voice his opinion that developers at D.I.C.E. remain unimpressed by the Wii U, echoing a sentiment similar to another report from D.I.C.E. that surfaced a few weeks ago. There’s just no enthusiasm for it. The only reason publishers are still going to bring games to Wii U is because they don’t want to damage their relationship with Nintendo.Low software sales numbers are to be expected from such a young system, especially when the software in question is available on other consoles with larger install bases. It’s also no surprise that Nintendo fans “would rather buy New Super Mario Bros.,” given that Mario is Nintendo’s bread and butter.
Still, there’s a growing concern in the industry that third parties are already losing interest in the Wii U before it has any chance to get any momentum. How about it, Nintendo fans? Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and buy the Wii U version of multiplatform games like Call of Duty?
The WII U has already lost 2 exclusives and hoping for Lego City Undercover next![]()

There is some truth to this, but you also remember that most people who Nintendo's consoles are marketed to don't care for games like Call of Duty. The reason being that the parents normally look at Nintendo and say "that looks like a nice clean family console" and only buy the family oriented games. That is certainly not true for every adopter of the system, but it is likely the majority. Also, people may look at the Wii U and wonder "why should buy this system AND this game if it plays just as well as the other console that I already have?"

I like how it is an unnamed source. What is this, the NFL? If you have the balls to make a comment like this, put your name with it. How dare this 'unnamed' source blame the Nintendo fans for this. If the WiiU isn't selling, no one will buy games, especially when they can play them on other consoles. You can't make the consumer buy a console they don't want. Personally, I don't want a WiiU, and Black Ops certainly won't be the game changer for me. I will by a non-backwards compatible PS4 before I buy a WiiU.

You, my friend, are one intelligent being. That is 100% correct.
Edit: On another note, Activision need to shut the fuck up. If you pump out a game every year and call it CoD: something, what did you expect? People to go WOW COD! (knowing them, that's exactly what they are expecting)

Nintendo fans only buy the systems for the 1st party games. I dont see why this would come as a shocker to these guys lol.

I'll like to add to what I said earlier. I have owned the last 3 major Nintendo systems and had a ton pf fun on each, but the experiences started to wane after a while. I would love to be able to get the new console, but we know it won't get the amount of third-party games as their opponents at Sony and Microsoft. They were making a push to finally get third party support, but the best games will likely be exclusives as was the case with the first Wii, the Gamecube, and especially the N64. Nintendo always makes a fun console, and that is great. But they need to remember what their fanbase wants: Nintendo games.

Total Awards: 7They should know Wii U owners aren't the biggest fans of FPSs. They're more fans of games that actually get worked on a lot harder.

Total Awards: 14I do not know what Activision expected.
Wii U is clearly marked to the casual crowd/the indie game lovers. I think it's more difficult to have a foothold on hardcore titles on the Wii U.

I don't think this is so much a commentary on the CoD franchise as it is about third-party game support on the Wii U in general.
If the world's biggest franchise can't sell on Wii U, what hope is there for the rest of the third-party industry? I can see Skylanders doing really well because it fits the target market of non-core gamers, but beyond kiddy-oriented platformers, I can't see many non-Nintendo properties performing well on Wii U.
Sucks to be you Nintendo...you've killed your one shot at third-party support before it got off the ground. With the PS4 announced and the 720 not far behind, they have little choice but to remain as a first-party vehicle.

Nintendo's smart to publish these games cause the WII U will at least have 2 relavent games exclusively for their system (Lego: City Undercover and Bayonetta 2) which may sell enough machines to keep it relavent till the new Zelda game comes out. If not then the WII U will continue to sell piss poor at 3.9 million units sold worldwide since launch. The PS3 has almost out sold both the WII U and XBOX 360 combined every week of 2013 worldwide.

Called it...
Nintendo has not produced a 3rd party friendly console since the SNES. At this point in time the relationship between Nintendo and the 3rd party developers is all but non-existant, does it really surprise you this is happening? Particularly given the gigantic amount of damage last generation did?
Plus, the gap between the Wii U and the PS4 and Durango will be equivalent to the gap between the Wii and the PS3 and 360, so the very thought that this is going to get better is a fallacy.
