Can I play locally with my PS Vita against my family on the PS3?

I don't know how you could invite yourself is the only thing. You should be able to get on both, but getting in the same game may be difficult.

Do you just not have enough controllers?

I do, I have 3, but sometimes someone comes along or something and we need to play or something.

I also want to see how it is.

Yeah I tried it right now, there is just no way to invite yourself into the game. Maybe try connecting your Vita to the PS3 may work but idk about that, that's my last idea of how it may work.

The only way I've successfully done this is by signing into a different profile on the ps3 and inviting myself on the vita. Its a bit inconvenient but worth it to play with a friend.

Lol, Idk why I didn't think about that. The online pass should be tied to the system, so yeah do that Sly. Just play on the Vita and you should get all the trophies along with it too.

Sly I don't know if this will work but you could try and see if All-Stars supports the cross controller option of remote play. I know it only works with a limited number of games but you might get lucky.
