The Official Platinum Difficulty Discussion Thread

    (banner image pending)

This thread is first and foremost a discussion thread, but it also has a poll. Please do not vote in the poll until you have earned the platinum trophy for this game. That being said, we invite you to post below and discuss the difficult aspects of the game, even if you do not yet have the platinum trophy in your collection.

When you post, give more than just a number. Give reasons why you feel the game is easy or hard. What parts of the game are easy or hard? Were there collectibles? Were they a pain? Is there a required online component? How easy or hard is the online portion? What is the most frustrating part about the game?

Once you have obtained the platinum trophy, feel free to return to this thread and post your official vote. Say something to the effect of "I give this a 2 because there was only one tough spot and the collectibles were easy to find". At this point, you may also add your vote to the poll.

The poll is public, meaning everyone can see how you vote.

3 Moderate: While the Land of the Livid Dead, a few Chest Chases, and some of the time trophies were hard, most of the trophies were pretty straightforward, and the cages were fairly simple, even without a guide. There were tough spots, but this is one of my favorite plats.

I voted Hard. First off this game was incredibly fun to plat, but some of the time trials take almost flawless runs to achieve and can test your patience. Land of the Livid Dead was fairly tricky as well. I agree with digital most of the trophies are fairly easy and the cages aren't difficult as long as you pay attention, but those 2 or 3 trophies that are difficult are pretty rough.

I voted this a 4. Although the game is simplistically designed, the sheer time it takes to conquer every level (as well as a few very frustrating areas in the game) is what makes it a challenge. If you're like me and grew up on platform games (Mario, Donkey Kong, etc), then regardless of how challenging this game is, it will be a fun platinum trophy to earn. Even though it took me a good few months to beat (playing on and off), I still thoroughly enjoyed myself.

This advice has already been given on this site, but it bears repeating: the best way to get the platinum trophy is to play the entire game through, one level at a time, and then returning to the beginning, playing each level for clean-up afterward. So, basically, just play each level through to the end and go right to the next one until you've finished all 10 worlds. Don't worry about finding all the hidden cages, getting all the Lums and Electoons, and ESPECIALLY don't worry about the time trials (getting the time trophies on any level is almost impossible until you're a pro). As you play the game through, your skill will go up. Once you've finished beating all 10 worlds, go back to the beginning and clean up each level (getting all the Electoons and beating the Time Trials, as well as finishing the Skull Teeth levels). The final level (which is unlocked when you get all 10 Skull Teeth) is ridiculously tough, and I suggest waiting to beat it until you've finished clean-up everywhere else (to ensure you're skill is as good as can be) and when you have all the other trophies, so that way when you beat it, you get the Platinum trophy simultaneously, and happy feelings ensue.

One more important thing to say about getting the PT. The main trophies that take the most time to get are the gold ones for collecting all of the skull teeth, time trial trophies, and completing the medallions. The other, more random, trophies are pretty easy to get, and I guarantee most of them you will get without even trying. This site and YouTube will help you get the others.

As you may be aware, completing a medallion requires you to collect 300 Lums, as well as finding the hidden cages and doing the time trials. Collecting 350 Lums will get you the Gold Ribbon (the exact amount of Lums does vary on a couple levels, but that's the average amount for most levels). It may interest you to know that you do NOT need to get ANY of the gold ribbons to earn the PT. If you just get 300 Lums (or however many the level needs to give you both Electoons) the Medallion will still be completed and the trophy can be earned. There's no trophy for Gold Ribbons (which is kinda strange, actually). Unfortunately, I didn't know this going in, and probably wasted many hours just getting those extra 50 Lums just to get the Gold Ribbon. (But, at the same time, it's even more satisfying knowing I've conquered the game in every possible aspect).

All in all, a very fun way to earn a Platinum Trophy. Just be ready to deal with some frustrating areas, particularly in the Skull Teeth and Moskito-shooter levels. The final level especially will be a test of patience.

You sir have just saved me a lot of time, I thought that because that ribbon thing is there it must relate to a trophy. Now I can just concentrate on the electoons.

    I say its hard..
most of the trophies are easy, but the time trials, some chest chases and the land of the livid dead can be infuriating sometimes.
but totally worth it.. really funny game.

    3 - Moderate

Land of the livid dead was the only really challenging part of this game. I got 350 lums on every level (even though it wasn't required to plat). Extremely fun game, right up there with Donkey Country Returns.

Gave it a 3. I had a couch co-op partner for a lot of it so that made getting the lums pretty easy since you don't need the gold ribbons. Having a co-op also means you can revive each other without restarting the area. Finding the hidden cages is just a matter of walking until you hear the "help me!" sound. Most of the time trials just took 1 or 2 tries, although some were definitely tough. The chest chases were really fun so I didn't mind the repeated attempts. The livid dead level was ridiculously hard, so it was satisfying once I finally beat it. If we had to get all the gold ribbons, I would bump it up to a 4. Good game and worthy plat.
